Role Summary
The Accountant is responsible for managing day-to-day accounting functions, assisting with preparation of monthly management reports, annual financial statements, general corporate accounting issues to ensure integrity of financial data, and providing leadership and guidance to their direct reports ensuring effective performance and development.

Qualifications
- Bachelor of Commerce (BComm) Degree or equivalent
- Auditing Articles
- Articles and 3 years commercial experience.
- Pastel Evolution experience will be advantageous.
- Able to provide guidance to direct reports, ensuring effective performance and development.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office package (Excel, PowerPoint, Word).
- Proficiency in financial accounting & reporting, including external statutory reporting and audit.
- Working knowledge of data entry management.
- General mathematical skills.
- Working knowledge of Pastel Evolution will be advantageous.
- Sound knowledge and understanding of South African VAT, Income Tax, and International Financial Reporting Standards.
Financial Management:
- Ensure cost effective allocation and use of company resources.
- Preparation of annual budgets and quarterly forecast.
- Preparation of monthly cash flow forecast.
- Monitor results versus budget and explanations of variances.
- Responsible for the full accounting function to trial balance which include, but is not limited to general ledger processing, and all balance sheet reconciliations.
- Complete the general ledger close off every month, once all journals are processed for the month.
- Responsible for maintaining the fixed asset register.
- Load payments on the banking system.
- Prepare and submit VAT201 returns.
- Prepare monthly audit schedules for balance sheet and income statement.
- Explain deviations (comparison of budget to actual results).
- Liaise with operational departments with regards to any variances.
- Preparation of year-end accounts and coordination with external auditors.
- Ensure timely preparation of monthly, quarterly, ad hoc & year-end reporting as required by management.
- Analyse business operations, trends, costs, revenues, financial commitments, and obligations, to project future revenues and expenses or to provide advice.
- Advise management about issues such as resource utilization, tax strategies, and the assumptions underlying budget forecasts.
- Preparation of year-end income taxation calculation.
- Preparation of year-end financial statements.
- Compilation of all necessary annual BEE financial schedules.
- Perform all such duties and exercise all such powers in relation to the business of the Company as may from time to time be vested in or assigned to you, even though such duties and powers may not normally be performed by you.
- Provide input into the development and training of direct reports.
- Conduct regular one-one-one coaching/mentoring sessions with junior team members.
- Initiate disciplinary action for direct reports who are non-compliant with company objectives, policies, and procedures.
- Conduct bi-annual performance reviews with direct reports.
