Facilities Officer (Wits PHRU)

Main Purpose Of The Job
  • Effectively manage the full facilities portfolio including maintaining, arranging repairs, and developing infrastructure and facilitating the procurement of equipment, stock, and other resources
Location:
  • Chris Hani Baragwanath Academic Hospital, Soweto - Johannesburg
Key Performance Areas
  • Assist management in identifying and managing operational and maintenance requirements, including the management of repairs to fixtures, fittings, and equipment throughout the building
  • Maintain a schedule of maintenance works required for the facility including preventative maintenance and testing of building systems (eg: fire, alarms, generator testing, etc.)
  • Provide information to all staff, users, and stakeholders regarding works that are being carried out that may affect their working environment or conditions
  • Work closely with external contractors, including sourcing quotations and supervision of works in accordance with legislative requirements
  • Participate in an on-call to respond to specialized facilities and unforeseen events
  • Procurement of required items for the division, including sourcing items, getting quotations, orders, and payments process
  • To draw up and monitor all service-level agreements with contractors or suppliers
  • Coordinate occupational health and safety
  • To obtain quotations as required for building and maintenance
  • To control facilities' consumables stock
  • Developing and maintaining relationships with vendors and service providers to ensure that facilities maintenance and repair services are provided in a timely and cost-effective manner
  • To be the first point of contact with the building landlord and managing agent
  • Manage and operate within an annual budget
  • To reconcile diesel credit card and facilities consumables petty cash
  • To liaise with PHRU-Bara operations, maintenance, and procurement departments
  • Maintain asset inventory
  • To monitor facilities and equipment ensuring all is in good condition and calibrated according to sponsor requirements and budget structure
  • Oversee facilities and equipment of the division including maintaining, arranging repairs, and stock control
Required Minimum Education And Training
  • Diploma/Degree in Facilities/Property Management
  • An Electrical qualification will be an added advantage
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office software
Required Minimum Work Experience
  • Minimum 2-3 year's work experience in a facility and/or operational capacity
  • Must be prepared to work after hours when required and be on call
Desirable Additional Education, Work Experience, And Personal Abilities
  • Knowledge of building systems and construction techniques
  • Technical knowledge to recognize symptoms of disrepair and diagnose effective remedial works
  • Maintenance experience is essential
  • Ability to network and build relationships with internal and external Key Stakeholders
  • Supervision of maintenance staff
  • High level of project management skills
  • Assertive and confident
  • Customer service orientated
  • Deadline driven
  • Ability to work independently and work as a part of a diverse and multi-disciplinary team
  • Valid driver's license and own transport and the ability to travel is essential
