Client:
The client is a Benin-based infrastructure and engineering company focused on the deployment of LED and solar solutions. Through its large-scale solarization and electrification initiatives, they are working to deliver sustainable energy access across Benin and the wider West African region. The organization is committed to high standards of operational excellence, local capacity building, and long-term infrastructure development.
Project:
The client is launching a nationwide initiative to solarize telecom towers in Benin. As part of this initiative, they are seeking a Procurement and Logistics Specialist to lead sourcing, distribution, and supply chain operations. This role will be critical in ensuring the efficient importation, delivery, and inventory management of solar components and related infrastructure across multiple deployment sites. In addition to managing logistics, the Specialist will focus on building the capabilities of local staff and ensuring all operations meet international standards.
Role and Responsibilities
Role: Procurement / Logistics Specialist
Direct Report: Chief Operations Officer
Candidates Required: 1
Key Deliverables:
- Design and implement robust procurement systems, including RFQs, vendor selection, and contract development
- Manage full logistics process for the import and distribution of solar equipment across 1, 000+ sites
- Build partnerships with local and international suppliers to ensure timely and cost-effective sourcing
- Oversee warehousing, customs clearance, inventory monitoring, and transport coordination
- Train and build capabilities of local supply chain staff
- Conduct a 2-3 month on-site diagnostic and improvement exercise
- Recommend strategic improvements to warehouse and logistics systems
Experience Required:
- Experience in procurement and logistics for infrastructure, renewable energy, or telecom projects
- Broad experience managing international and local suppliers, including customs and import logistics
- Experience in West Africa highly preferred
- Familiarity with solar component supply chains and logistics in developing markets
- Strong negotiation and contract management skills
- Ability to structure procurement processes aligned with international and local standards
- Strong communication and cross-cultural training skills
- Ability to work independently and build internal capacity
- Adaptability and proactive problem-solving
Location:Benin (initial on-site presence for 6 months required; remote work possible thereafter)
Language: French/English
Travel: Periodic in-country travel to warehouses and project sites
