Position Overview
We are looking for a detail-oriented Architectural Technologist to bridge the gap between concept design and technical execution. You will be responsible for developing comprehensive technical documentation, detailed specifications, and construction drawings. This role requires a professional who can navigate South African building regulations while coordinating effectively with architects, engineers, and site contractors to ensure project feasibility and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Technical Documentation: Prepare and present design proposals and high-precision technical drawings using AutoCAD and other industry-standard AEC software.
- Project Briefing & Coordination: Collaborate with clients and professionals to establish project briefs, ensuring all practical and technical design constraints are addressed early.
- Regulatory Compliance: Evaluate and advise on environmental, legal, and regulatory requirements. Manage planning applications and statutory approval documentation in line with local municipal bylaws.
- Detailed Design Management: Lead the technical design process, coordinating design information and conducting design-stage risk assessments.
- Contract Administration: Advise clients on contract procurement and assist in the administration of contracts and project certifications.
- Site & Quality Oversight: Identify required pre-construction surveys, monitor contractor performance through feedback loops, and conduct site visits ensuring strict adherence to safety protocols.
- Material Specification: Produce and analyze detailed specifications for materials and construction processes to ensure durability and cost-effectiveness.
- Regulatory Expertise: Robust knowledge of the National Building Regulations (NBR), SANS 10400, and municipal submission processes.
- Accuracy: Exceptional attention to detail in producing "issued for construction" (IFC) drawings.
- Professional Communication: Strong interpersonal skills for liaising with statutory authorities, consultants, and clients.
- Self-Management: Proven ability to manage multiple project deadlines independently within a team-centric environment.
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Education: Bachelors Degree in Architectural Technology or a closely related built-environment field.
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience in a technical architectural role, preferably within a private practice.
- Technical Proficiency: Expert-level competency in AutoCAD is essential. Familiarity with Revit or BIM workflows is a distinct advantage.
- Sector Experience: Previous experience working on both Commercial and Residential projects.
