Operations Area Manager

We are seeking a dynamic and highly capable Operations Area Manager to lead and drive all regional operational functions within the Western Cape. This is a pivotal leadership role responsible for ensuring the smooth, efficient and profitable running of Field Operations, Sales & Collections, Customer Experience and Warehouse & Infrastructure activities, while providing high level operational oversight to the Field Operations Manager in Gauteng.

You will serve as the strategic and operational bridge between the Cape Town division and national leadership, ensuring alignment, accountability and execution excellence across the region.

Key Responsibilities

Sales & Revenue Growth
  • Lead regional sales initiatives, identify low-performing hotspot areas and drive campaigns to increase service uptake and revenue. Ensure sales tracking accuracy and maintain performance oversight. Deploy resources accordingly.
Collections & Financial Health
  • Coordinate structured collection efforts, manage arrears ethically and strengthen payment compliance through collaboration with CE, Collections, Finance and any other related teams. Focus on customer retention and sustainable revenue recovery
Marketing & Brand Visibility
  • Localize national marketing strategies, plan community-based activations and grow ikeja's footprint through public engagement and local brand representation
Customer Engagement Management
  • Supervise the regional Customer Engagement (CE) team members and ensure service standards align with national guidelines. Promote cooperation between CE, Field and Warehouse teams for consistent customer outcomes.
  • Work closely with the CE Manager in JHB
Warehouse, Configurations & Logistics
  • Oversee CPE distribution, stock management and interdepartmental scheduling to ensure smooth operational flow and optimal resource use
Field Operations (via FTM Oversight)
  • Provide high-level strategic oversight of all field operations through management and supervision of the Field Team Manager (FTM). Ensure regional operational performance aligns with ikeja's standards of efficiency, safety and service delivery
  • Assist with the selection and evaluation of external contractors and approval of invoices with every payment cycle.
  • Review FTM reports, monitor productivity trends, assess risk management and intervene where systemic issues require cross-functional escalation. Lead collaboration between Field, Warehouse and Customer teams to maintain consistent service delivery and operational excellence
Interdepartmental Alignment & Project Oversight
  • Coordinate collaborative planning between departments, ensuring smooth execution of regional projects and day to day operations
  • Track progress, resolve conflicts and/or bottlenecks and provide consolidated reporting
Leadership, Reporting & Compliance
  • Maintain high operational standards, enforce company policies and lead through accountability and integrity.
  • Propel excellence and uphold high standards within the localised Philippi, Cape Town, division by driving performance, consistency and operational discipline.
  • Use your experience to coach, mentor and develop team members, fostering a culture of ownership and continuous improvement.
  • Provide structured, data-driven performance reports and ensure full compliance with company policies, HR processes, health and safety regulations and operational procedures.
  • Take accountability for the operational success and efficiency of the region, ensuring seamless execution of strategy and alignment with broader company objectives
Requirements

Qualifications
  • Matric (Grade 12) required
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in Operations Management, e.g National Diploma(NQF Level 6) in Business Management, Project Management, or related fields is required. Bachelors Degree(NQF Level 7) in Operations Management, Business Administration will be an added advantage
Experience
  • Minimum of 5-8 years experience in operations, field operations, regional management, or a similar leadership role within a fast-paced environment (telecommunications experience advantageous)
  • Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional teams, including sales, customer service, technical/field and warehouse/logistics teams
  • Strong background in operational performance management, including KPIs, dashboards and structured reporting
  • Experience in managing regional projects, operational planning and cross-departmental execution
  • Experience in customer retention, collections, or financial recovery processes is highly advantageous
  • Exposure to community-level engagement or localised marketing activations is beneficial
  • Solid understanding of stock control, CPE distribution and operational logistics is preferred
  • Proficiency with technology and operational systems, including reporting tools and dashboards
  • Flexibility to work extended hours when required
Other Requirements
  • Own reliable transport and a valid driver's licence (for at least one year) is a strict requirement as well as willingness to travel across the Western Cape region
