ASSISTANT IT LABORATORY ADMINISTRATOR
PEROMNES POST LEVEL 10 (THREE POSTS)

Job Purpose
To support and assist users, computer facility coordinators, and managers in providing efficient and effective student computing services at UP. Maintain 200 to 500 computers dedicated to a specific facility or environment. Supervise a team of student assistants to support the facility's customers effectively.
Responsibilities
The successful candidates responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Liaison and incident management:
- Liaise with supervisor and team leaders to complete tasks as required;
- Liaise with student assistants to carry out tasks as you have assigned;
- Engage with clients at the computer facility to establish problems and assist with resolution;
- Provide ongoing onsite and remote Helpdesk support to customers;
- Computer facilities management:
- Maintain assigned facilities and computers according to operating standards;
- Check the availability of the computer facilities and schedule bookings accordingly;
- Complete scheduling for assistants in line with booking requests;
- Assess computers according to bookings to ensure that software is working to address the needs of scheduled clients;
- Install the required software;
- Repair out of warranty computers;
- Provide audio-visual support to lecturers;
- Computer based testing:
- Attend to problems as they arise during computer-based testing;
- Attend to problems relating to software and hardware;
- Escalate problem for resolution during testing;
- Determine problems as they arise;
- Attend to logistics and seating arrangements for the tests;
- Set up general test administration processes as per clients request and oversee the process;
- Student Assistant supervision:
- Oversee Student Assistants and provide work output for the day;
- Monitor the output of Student Assistants and provide training;
- Ensure that administrative tasks like claims are attended to on time.
- A relevant three-year tertiary qualification (National Diploma) in IT; with
- A total of two years experience in/as:
- A computer laboratory assistant in an educational computing facility, supporting the institution's academic goals;
- Client support;
- Hardware and software support;
- Grade 12; with
- A total of four years experience in/as:
- A computer laboratory assistant in an educational computing facility, supporting the institution's academic goals;
- Client support;
- Hardware and software support.
- Knowledge:
- Microsoft Active Directory;
- Linux;
- Windows 10 / 11;
- Technical competencies:
- Hardware and software support and maintenance;
- Computer literacy;
- Troubleshooting;
- Image casting methods;
- Behavioural competencies:
- Supervisory skills;
- Ability to liaise with clients and resolve conflict;
- Planning and scheduling;
- Customer support.
- A three-year degree or Advanced Diploma (NQF7) in IT;
- A total of three years experience in/as:
- A computer laboratory assistant, working in an educational computing facility that supports the institution's academic goals;
- Client support;
- Computer hardware and software maintenance;
- Computer-based training;
- Ability to monitor and assist in running the CBT system, focusing on keeping the integrity of the system and the university;
- Valid drivers license;
- Relevant certifications in IT courses (A+, N+, ITIL, Microsoft, etc.).
The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbents level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
