Managing Director: Agriculture

The Managing Director: Agriculture at Astral Foods is responsible for providing strategic leadership and overseeing the efficient, cost-effective, and sustainable operations of the Agriculture Division. This role ensures financial performance, operational excellence, and compliance with biosecurity and industry regulations while driving innovation and continuous improvement. A key focus is on risk management, strategy implementation and stakeholder collaboration to secure long-term business growth and sustainability.

Qualifications

• BSc Agriculture of another relevant tertiary qualification
• Post graduate diploma/degree in Business Administration will be advantageous

Experience

• Minimum of 10 years experience within an integrated poultry farming operations
• 5 Years of experience at a Senior Management level.

Responsibilities

Operational & Poultry Farming Management

• Oversee poultry farming efficiency by implementing best practices in biosecurity, animal welfare, and sustainable farming.
• Lead cost-effective production strategies while ensuring high-quality output and compliance with industry standards.
• Ensure optimal performance of an integrated poultry operations, maximizing efficiency across the supply chain.

Financial & Commercial Management

• Take full P&L responsibility for the Agriculture Division, ensuring profitability and financial sustainability.
• Lead financial planning, budgeting, and cost control measures to improve financial performance.
• Drive financial analysis and cost-saving initiatives, ensuring long-term commercial success.

Stakeholder & People Leadership

• Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including contract growers/suppliers, regulators, and key business partners.
• Lead a high-performing team, fostering a culture of accountability, development, and innovation.
• Drive talent management, succession planning, and leadership development within the Agriculture Division.

Risk & Compliance Management

• Ensure biosecurity protocols are strictly followed to mitigate disease risks and maintain industry standards.
• Implement robust internal control systems to minimize operational risks.
• Ensure regulatory compliance with animal welfare, environmental laws, and agricultural policies.

Strategic Leadership & Business Growth

• Provide visionary leadership for the Agriculture Division, ensuring alignment with Astral Foods' strategic objectives.
• Drive continuous improvement and operational excellence across all agricultural operations, including Astral Agri Operations, contract growers, Ross Poultry Breeders, and National Chicks.
• Identify and implement growth opportunities to enhance business performance and efficiency.

Innovation & Sustainability

• Identify and drive sustainable farming practices to enhance long-term efficiency and environmental responsibility.
• Stay ahead of industry trends and technological advancements to maintain Astrals competitive edge.
