Purpose Of The Job

The Business Intelligence (BI) Developer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining scalable BI solutions that provide actionable insights to support data-driven decision-making across the organization. This role focuses on transforming raw data into meaningful visualizations, dashboards, and reports, ensuring data integrity, optimizing performance, and collaborating with stakeholders to meet analytical needs. The BI Developer plays a critical role in empowering business units with timely, accurate, and accessible data to drive strategic goals and operational efficiency.

Education

National Senior Certificate Matric / Grade 12 - Essential
Diploma Information Technology or related field- Essential
Bachelors degree (3 years - 360 credits) Information Technology or related field - Advantageous

Experience

Professional Experience: 4 years hands-on experience in business intelligence development, data analysis, or a similar data-focused role.
BI Tools Proficiency: 3 years demonstrated experience with BI and data visualization tools such as Power BI with the ability to build dynamic dashboards and detailed reports.
ETL & Data Integration: 2 years experience developing or maintaining ETL processes using tools such as SSIS, Azure Data Factory, Informatica, or equivalent.
Requirement Gathering: 3 years experience collaborating with business users to understand reporting needs and translate them into technical solutions.
Data Quality & Validation: 3 years experience performing data validation, reconciliation, and ensuring the accuracy and consistency of reports and dashboards.
Communication & Documentation: Proven ability to clearly document technical work and communicate BI insights to non-technical stakeholders.
Data Warehousing: 2 years familiarity with data warehouse concepts and experience working with relational databases (e.g., SQL) and data virtualization platforms (e.g., Denodo).
Basic Programming/Scripting: 2 years Exposure to scripting languages (e.g., Python, R) for data manipulation and automation is advantageous.
Agile & Project Delivery: Experience working in Agile or iterative development environments and contributing to project timelines and deliverables.
SQL & Data Querying: Strong experience writing complex SQL queries for data extraction, manipulation, and performance tuning across large datasets.

High-Quality Dashboards & Reports: Design and deliver accurate, visually compelling dashboards and reports using BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau, Looker) that meet business requirements and support decision-making.
Optimized Data Models: Develop and maintain robust data models and ETL processes to ensure efficient data extraction, transformation, and loading from multiple sources into the BI platform.
Business Requirements Translation: Gather, analyze, and translate business requirements into technical specifications and scalable BI solutions.
Data Accuracy & Integrity: Ensure the accuracy, consistency, and reliability of data used in reporting through validation processes and data governance practices.
Performance Tuning: Optimize queries, reports, and dashboards to ensure fast performance and minimal load times, even with large datasets.
Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Maintain clear documentation for data models, BI solutions, and reporting processes, and support cross-functional knowledge sharing.
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement: Partner with business units, data engineers, and analysts to align BI outputs with strategic goals and user needs.
Automation & Efficiency Gains: Identify opportunities to automate manual reporting processes and implement solutions that increase reporting efficiency.
Adherence to Security & Compliance Standards : Ensure BI solutions comply with data privacy, security policies, and regulatory requirements.
Continuous Improvement: Stay current with BI trends, tools, and best practices; recommend and implement improvements to BI capabilities.
