An exciting opportunity exists for a Commercial Underwriter to join the Underwriting Department. The successful applicant will be responsible for management of their broker portfolio. This role will report into the Commercial Underwriting manager and the successful candidate will participate in strategic and operational activities. This position is based in Centurion.
JOB DESCRIPTION
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Deliver exceptional client service that exceeds customers expectations through the proactive, innovative, and appropriate motor assessing process.
- Needs to have knowledge and understanding of various Commercial products in depth knowledge.
- Needs to understand Commercial Lines product requirements.
- Various Insurers Commercial products, Agriculture, Engineering and Hospitality
- Needs to understand and have knowledge of how the Commercial Lines Industry works. The trends eg. Auto Rating etc.
- Logical thinker
- Be able to translate product requirements into system functionality Eg. What information is required to be captured and how should it be validated. Minimums, Maximums, Accumulations, Computations (for when item Sums Insured must be computed from another item within a risk/section), etc.
- Not afraid to investigate and learn new skills.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
Minimum Requirements:
- Matric is an essential requirement

- FAIS Credits (as per FAIS requirement)
- Must be Fit & Proper in terms of the FAIS Act
- Regulatory Exam: Representatives
- Must not be debarred with FSCA
Minimum Requirements:
- Must have experience in various commercial products Comm, Agri, ST, Engineering etc.
- Be able to handle a portfolio of approximately 500 policies.
- 3- 5 years commercial underwriting experience
Minimum Requirements:
- PC literate Microsoft Office products skills (Outlook, Word, Excel)
- Good typing skills (accuracy & speed)
- Sound knowledge of Insurance principles
- Websure system experience will be an advantage, but not a requirement
- Well spoken.
- Client orientation
- Attention to detail.
- Organized
- Excellent communication skills (verbal & written)
- Proper telephone etiquette
- Being able to speak / read and communicate in Afrikaans and English is an advantage.
- Must be able to handle pressure.
