Qualifications / Requirements
- Proven experience using CAD software, proficient at Autodesk Inventor
- Diploma or Degree in Mechanical Engineering
- Minimum of 2 years experience as a Design Engineer
- Automotive industry related experience
- Strong work ethics and integrity
- Proven technical aptitude
- Working knowledge of manufacturing engineering systems
- Working knowledge of engineering drawings and designs
- Knowledge of various materials and their properties to select the appropriate materials for different design requirements
- Capability to create prototypes and conduct tests to validate designs and ensure they meet performance requirements
- Strong technical communication skills to effectively collaborate with other departments, suppliers and clients
- Excellent oral and written communication and presentation abilities
- Attention to detail and great computational and creative ability
- Concept designs create new and innovative concept designs with sketches, calculations, drawings, and product specifications, as well as conducting basic Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and interpreting results
- Final designs finalization for manufacturability of concept designs with sketches, calculations, drawings, and product specifications, as well as conducting basic Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and interpreting results.
- Design evaluation - actively contribute to creation and maintenance of FMEA reviews
- Costing information/BOM - generating of costing spreadsheets and BOM
- Assembly of development products
- Compiling of test parameters, conducting trials, the generation and interpretation of results
- Accurate and thorough vehicle measurements transferred into CAD for the design and approval model/drawings submitted to customer
- New and existing model vehicles - creation of CAD designs, sketches and calculations into part and assembly drawings for submission to customer for approval. Generating cut-list and fitment items and ordering of specific componentry
- Compile fitment manuals as and when required
- Machining The generating of new CNC machining programmes, review and optimization of existing CNC machining programmes as well as tooling/jig design and coordination of tooling manufacture
- Production handover generate production information and manage production handover meetings with training of new product introduction
- Conduct production trials for new and revised product manufacture and assembly
- Handle production queries related to product design and quality
- Management of design information in line with design department standards
- Completion of work tracking sheets to ensure up to date/live information is available
- Request creation of new item codes and generating or review of BOM
- Generate ECR's documentation and maintenance of register
- Generating and maintenance of product fitment manuals, register and file directory in line with department standards
- Identify requirement for new component development
- Initiate new supplier identification and supplier evaluation
- Source new technologies for use in product and processes
- Sourcing of quotations from suppliers
- Root cause analysis
- Identification and implementation of product and process quality improvements
- Ensure full compliance to ISO standards
- Actively contribute to continuous improvement project team
