Director: Academic Planning and Quality Advancement

CORE PURPOSE OF JOB

To oversee and manage academic planning and quality advancement activities, processes, and outcomes in support

of the Universitys strategic priorities.

  • Strong understanding of higher education policies, particularly in academic planning, learning and teaching, and quality assurance frameworks.
  • Awareness of key trends, challenges and developments within the higher education sector.
  • Expertise in identifying risks and implementing appropriate mitigation strategies associated with academic planning and quality assurance.
  • Proven ability to lead teams and drive strategic initiatives with vision and influence.
  • Skilled in guiding staff performance, promoting professional growth and cultivating an academic environment that supports excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Expertise in managing strategic partnerships and alliances both within and outside the institution.
  • Strong personal impact with the ability to inspire trust and confidence across all levels of the institution.
  • Skilled in managing complex projects.
  • Competence in resource management, budgeting and operational oversight to meet strategic goals.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, including the ability to prepare and present high-quality reports.
  • Highly skilled at analysing complex issues and developing innovative strategies and solutions.
  • Proficient in implementing and utilising reporting systems that support informed decision-making.
Requirements
  • A relevant Masters degree.
  • A minimum of 8 years of relevant experience in higher education, with at least 5 years in a management or leadership role.
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge in navigating the South African higher education policy landscape.
  • Proven experience in leading and facilitating academic planning and quality assurance initiatives within a higher education context.
  • Sound knowledge and understanding of the quality assurance frameworks and standards governing higher education.
  • Established history of driving successful academic programme reviews, accreditations and continuous improvement initiatives.
