Employee Relations Officer

Responsibilities
  • Represent the University in disputes at the CCMA
  • Advise and support line management and HR practitioners employee relations on policy matters
  • Employee Relations administration and reporting.
  • Service consultative meetings with Employees Union, NEHAWU, Academics' Union (CFASM), ERMC (this entails preparing agendas, producing written records/minutes, booking venues and other logistical support, and following up on issues that require so in the respective meetings)
  • Assist the manager in the servicing of academic discipline and probation committees i.e. Preliminary Investigating Committee, Committee of Inquiry, Committee of Review, etc
  • Assist the manager in the servicing of the University Human Resource Committee, Bargaining Meetings, and also other ER-related ad-hoc committees Represent the University in external dispute resolution fora including the CCMA Conciliation and Arbitration disputes.
  • Assist the manager in the preparation of cases for the CCMA and the Labour Court.
  • Be alternate for the Employee Relations Manager in complex disciplinary matters.
  • Advise and support line management and Human Resources practitioners on disciplinary and grievance issues with regards to procedures, labour law and
  • Develop line management capacity to manage discipline and grievances in the areas of responsibility.
  • Keep HR Generalists informed on developments in case law that may impact on their servicing of clients.
  • Provide administrative support to the Employee Relations Section of the HR Department.
  • Develop and manage a credible database of disciplinary and grievance cases.
  • Preparation statistical analysis reports of employee relations issues.
  • Manage the redeployment list by liaising with HR Generalists and informing them about the policy, and assist when required with problems arising out of the redeployment procedure.

  • Ability to be a constructive and productive team member. -
  • Well developed Communication skills (oral and written skills).
