PRIMARY POSITION PURPOSE
This position is responsible for the for handling geotechnical investigations for infrastructure projects and provide recommendations that guide the project development
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Geotechnical investigations including desktop studies, prefeasibility to detail design investigations and reporting.
- Collect and analyse data for project planning and design.
- Supervise geotechnical Contractors on site including the appointment of Contractors, managing site operations, payment certificates, quality, health and safety, performance, and project timelines.
- Supervise and manage small teams (Technicians, Students, Draughtsmen, Graduates).
- Develop increased design ability and quality.
- Prepare and deliver technical reports of acceptable technical and presentational quality.
- Make technical decisions and provide solutions rather than one completed end result.
- Able to present / represent their technical work.
- Develop knowledge of the commercial aspects of project management.
- Develop understanding of Functional Unit technologies and markets.
- Ability to check and inspect constructed works for compliance with design and specifications.
- Construction administration and monitoring.
- Preparation of tenders for investigations and construction including BoQs and specifications.
- Preparation of tender bids to clients including draft cost estimates.
- Development of internal standards and implementing them.
- Develop solutions to complex engineering problems.
- Perform design work duties.
- Apply SMECs systems and procedures and ensure enforcement.
- Working with clients to capture their requirements.
- Client invoicing.
- Project auditing.
- Project management and lead.
- Project financial forecasting, budgets, and associated resource planning.
- Regular client contacts without Senior Managers.
- Ability to lead and manage projects (with support) from inception to invoicing.
- Deliver projects on time and with the highest level of quality.
- In depth geotechnical reporting.
- Understanding of the SMEC/SJ Group systems and requirements.
- Planning of workload to meet deadlines.
- Positive client feedback - both internal and external clients.

- Bsc Hons in Engineering Geology or Geology or related.
- Minimum 5 years of practical experience within a geotechnical engineering firm.
- Professionally registered with SACNASP (PrSci.Nat) and with SAIEG (Candidate to Member)
- Clear understanding of local functional business technologies and markets.
- Knowledge of project management and the use of project management tools.
- Professionalism.
- Extensive experience in geotechnical investigations and reporting on variety of projects.
