- Minimum of 10-15 years of progressive experience in senior financial management roles.
- A minimum of 5 years of experience specifically within the construction or built environment sector is mandatory.
- Proven experience in managing large-scale project finances, including tenders, contracts, and project cost control.
- Demonstrated experience in a leadership position, managing and mentoring a finance team.
Education: A professional accounting qualification such as a Chartered Accountant (CA) is essential. A Master's degree in Business Administration (MBA) or Finance is highly desirable.
Required Competencies
- Financial Expertise:
- Deep knowledge of financial reporting standards (IFRS), tax regulations, and statutory compliance within the South African context.
- Expertise in project finance, including budgeting, forecasting, and profitability analysis for construction projects.
- Strong skills in treasury management and cash flow forecasting to manage the lumpy nature of payments and expenditures in the construction industry.
- Proficiency in financial software and ERP systems relevant to construction.
- Strategic Leadership:
- Ability to contribute to strategic business planning and corporate strategy.
- Experience in leading financial due diligence for mergers, acquisitions, and joint ventures.
- A proactive, problem-solving mindset with a focus on risk mitigation.
- Communication and Negotiation:
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to liaise effectively with all stakeholders, including clients, banks, auditors, and government bodies.
- Strong negotiation skills to manage commercial agreements and procurement contracts.
- Problem-Solving:
- Proven ability to identify and address complex financial challenges, such as delayed payments, cost overruns, and supply chain disruptions.
- Experience in developing and implementing internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial integrity.
