Freight & Cross-Trade Management
- Manage all local and cross-border freight processes within the GEA Africa region, with a key focus on non-standard shipments and cross-trade movements.
- Maintain freight SOPs and develop standard country guidelines (Africa Workbook) with expected cost frameworks.
- Serve as the company representative for customs compliance and ensure adherence to applicable legislation.
- Manage requests for quotes (RFQs) and forwarding instructions, ensuring timely communication with relevant parties.
- Address and resolve logistical issues and complaints as they arise.
- Provide after-hours support for urgent shipment issues.
- Act as backup operational support for warehousing activities in Cape Town and Johannesburg.
- Provide assistance to warehouse teams during periods of high demand or in the absence of key staff.
- Support receipting, dispatch, stock movements, and inventory accuracy initiatives as required.
- Collaborate with the National Warehouse Manager on SOP alignment and issue resolution.
- Provide first-line support in freight and warehouse-related ERP transactions.
- Assist in testing and refining SAP processes during rollout phases.
- Identify and escalate system-related process gaps or improvement opportunities.
- Manage relationships with preferred vendors: freight forwarders, couriers, and road freight providers.
- Coordinate RFQs, rate reviews, Globel SLA evaluations, and dispute resolution.
- Ensure timely and accurate preparation of import/export documentation.
- Manage licenses, COCs, SAD500s, and 0% VAT documentation.
- Ensure proper record-keeping and audit readiness
- Drive freight consolidation and cost-effective routing.
- Verify all freight charges and ensure proper cost allocation.
- Manage exception handling and quotation escalation processes
- Deliver structured training to internal stakeholders on freight processes and compliance.
- Create and distribute bulletins and updated SOPs.
- Provide guidance on terms of sale, customs risks, and regulatory changes
- Develop and track KPIs across freight and warehouse-related activities.
- Identify and mitigate logistics risks.
- Support the adoption of digital tools for visibility, tracking, and reporting
- Tertiary qualification or certificate in Logistics.
- 2 years' experience in Forwarding & Clearing.
- Practical working knowledge of warehouse operations and ERP systems (SAP preferably).
- Advanced knowledge of freight, customs, and warehousing procedures.
- Strong analytical skills with cost-conscious decision-making.
- Experience with ERP systems (SAP experience is an advantage).
- Ability to work independently, multitask, and provide hands-on support.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
