Job description

We are seeking to employ an experienced and well-organized OHS Advisor / Practitioner to join our vibrant OHS team in Cape Town.

The ideal candidate should be a team player as well as an individual performer that is willing to work in a fast-paced and deadline driven environment.

SERR SYNERGY was established in 2014 specifically to address the revised Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment Codes of Good Practice (B-BBEE or BEE Codes) along with fundamental business legal compliance requirements as expected of all businesses in South Africa.

These include
  • Skills Development and Employment Equity legislation;
  • Occupational Health and Safety Act;
  • Regulatory (mandatory) Training;
  • The new Companies Act;
  • Consumer Protection Act;
  • National Credit Act;
  • PAIA and POPI Act;
  • Electronic Communications Act;
  • Labour Relations legislation pertaining to business employees.

Minimum requirements:
  • Relevant tertiary qualification in-progress.
  • Knowledgeable on the South African health and safety legislation and other applicable legislation would be an advantage.
  • Experience in OHS will be advantageous.
  • SACPCMP registration of a Candidate Construction Health and Safety Officer (CHSO) or Full CHSO in-progress will receive preference.
  • Be computer-literate on the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Strong administrative and excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to speak, read and write in Afrikaans and English.
  • Must have own reliable transport.
Your duties as an OHS Advisor / Practitioner will include, but not be limited to the following:
  • Advice relating to South African health and safety legislation and other relevant legislation;
  • Explanation of minimum compliance requirements and consequences of non-compliance;
  • Trainings on legislations, regulations and amendments;
  • Drafting of safety files and specialised industry documents;
  • Reviewing legal documents and policies for compliance with current health and safety legislation;
  • Advice on disputes stemming from incidents at the workplace and non-conformance with legal requirements;
  • Guidance on health and safety matters relating to the implementation of practical solutions for safety in the workplace;
  • Conducting inspections and GAP assessments of the clients implemented OHS system to determine compliance with legislation under supervision;
  • GAP assessments conducted by the OHS Advisor under supervision of the Practitioner to include:
  • Evaluate organisational processes for compliance with regards to relevant legislative requirements;
  • Review and monitor GAP assessment reports and the implementation progress;
  • Present GAP assessment report and concise recommendations to the Practitioners and Team Leads;
  • Analysing potential risks within the company and its practices to avoid possible compliance issues;
  • Enforcement of legislation and guidance on dealing with enforcement forums;
  • Assistance and guidance with enquiries relating to incidents at the workplace and occupational diseases;
  • Assist the COID team relating to IODs & DODs affecting the Practitioners clients;
  • Assistance and guidance with Hazardous Biological Agents (COVID-19) and other applicable legislation;
  • Visit clients under supervision of the Practitioners or Team Leads, though both observing the Practitioner and being observed by the Practitioner;
  • Conduct implementation and inductions under the supervision of the Practitioners or Team Leads;
  • Collaborate with team members to find and improve industry knowledge, skills;
  • Working independently without supervision will be determined based on performance reviews; and
  • And any other task necessary for the conduct of the employers business, as the employer may from time to time direct, and to assist clients with all health and safety related matters to ensure compliance with legislation and to avoid or limit risk;
  • Market related salary, depending on experience and qualifications.
