Job description
The I&C Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, and implementation of control and instrumentation systems for water & wastewater as well as energy industries.
The responsibilities will also include overseeing the installation, commissioning, and optimization of control systems to ensure efficient and safe plant operations. The engineer will work closely with other engineering disciplines, project managers, and plant operations teams to deliver projects on time and within budget.
Required Qualifications
- BSc/BTech in Electrical/Electronic/Mechatronic Engineering, or a related field
- Registration with ECSA at a professional level is essential
- At least 8 years of experience in control and instrumentation engineering.
- Experience in the energy, mining, and water/wastewater sectors will be an added advantage.
- Experience in delivering medium to large-scale C&I projects.
- Proficiency in control system design and programming (e.g., PLC, DCS, SCADA systems).
- Strong knowledge of instrumentation selection, installation, and maintenance.
- Knowledge of Internet of Things and Augmented Reality technologies will be an added advantage.
- Knowledge of OT cybersecurity and asset management will be an advantage.
- Familiarity with industry standards such as ISA, IEC, and IEEE.
Design Development and Review
- Select appropriate instrumentation and control equipment based on project requirements.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and best practices.
- Develop or review control and instrumentation system designs, including P&IDs (Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams), control philosophies, and system architectures.
- Collaborate with the IT teams to design and integrate OT and IT systems (IIoT, performance monitoring, asset management, and AR systems)
- Oversee the installation, testing, and commissioning of C&I systems (process instruments, PLCs, SCADA systems).
- Conduct site inspections and tests to verify system performance and compliance with design specifications.
- Develop/Review FAT and SAT procedures and QCPs for manufacturing and installation of C&I systems.
- Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues during the commissioning phase.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs for control systems and instrumentation.
- Analyse system performance data to identify opportunities for improvement and optimisation.
- Provide technical support and training to plant operations and maintenance personnel.
