Senior Specialist: International Tax

Purpose To provide specialist advice and deliver and ensure statutory tax compliance for a specific company or specific tax discipline within the Group and provide tax advice where appropriate.

Minimum Experience
  • 5 years experience in a similar environment
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor`s Degrees and Advanced Diplomas [NQF Level 07] in Finance Economics and Accounting
  • Additional Minimum Qualifications
  • Post-graduate qualification with focus on International Tax
Skills
  • Skills - Experience in the compilation of Country-by-Country Reporting ("CbCR"), Transfer Pricing Documentation ("TP"), TP and Controlled Foreign Company ("CFC") computations and disclosures in group ITR14 returns (Essential)
  • Communication skills (verbal, written);
  • Analytical, interpretation (Tax Law) and able to apply tax principles and professional judgement to various business scenarios
  • Problem-solving skills;
  • Able to take initiative, function independently and take ownership and drive tasks/projects from begin to end;

Responsibilities
  • To accurately and timeously prepare and/or review and submit Country-by-Country report ("CbCR") on behalf of the group.
  • To accurately and timeously prepare/review the group's Transfer Pricing Masterfile ("TP Masterfile").
  • To accurately and timeously prepare/review/update and submit (where required) group company's Local Transfer Pricing Files.
  • To accurately and timeously prepare/review annual Controlled Foreign Company("CFC") tax computations and IT10B disclosures as well as related tax-accounting entries and disclosures for financial reporting purposes in respect of all group companies.
  • To accurately and timeously prepare/review the transfer pricing disclosures on the group company's ITR14s.
  • To accurately and timeously prepare/review/update the group's Africa compliance and risk register.
  • To liaise with SARS in resolving any international tax controversy matters.
  • To formulate and draft tax opinions on the application of tax legislation to new and existing business initiatives, as and when required.
  • To design tax models that incorporate new business initiatives, as required.
  • To assist with ad hoc tax projects as may be required by business.
  • To continuously advise and provide international tax-related training to stakeholders to ensure optimal awareness and competence with regard to new and existing tax requirements.
  • To regularly undertake research in order to hone technical skills in order to stay abreast of developments in field of specialisation.
Process
  • Provide specialist advice and support in area of accountability to ensure that identified solutions and recommendations are appropriate and effective.
  • Identify, diagnose and recommend improvements and provide specialist advice and support; ensuring that solutions are appropriate and effective.
  • Investigate and make recommendations that could potentially lead to tax savings in compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Source, collate, analyse and interpret financial data in order to assist in and support the review of the financial performance of the business.
  • Keep abreast of regulation and industry developments to advise and guide on key compliance risk issues; enabling informed decision making.
  • Advise on the accurate and timeous completion and submission of tax returns, related payments and monthly tax accounting entries.
  • Review and compare, on a monthly basis, internal tax accounting with SARS statements of accounts to ensure they are reconciled.
  • Review and identify improvements to the preparation of tax submissions and ensure compliance in the process.
  • Accountable for the improvement of quality, service and work outputs, continuously recommending improvements.
  • Plan for the organisation of work outputs and process improvement activities in light of a specific situational context related to the area of specialisation.
  • Proactively identify area of specialisation related problems, determine cause and effect and recommend the best option to implement corrective action based on previous experience.

  • Provide specialist expertise and advice to internal/external customers, that builds strong relationships and creates a favourable impression aligned to Treating the Customer Fairly (TCF) principles.
