The Role
Subtech South Africa is seeking a motivated individual to help ensure full compliance with legal, regulatory, and organisational safety requirementswhile also shaping a culture where safety, quality, and environmental responsibility are at the heart of everyday operations.
What You'll Be Doing
- Conduct site inspections, PPE checks, and ensure safety equipment is maintained and compliant.
- Compile, review, and maintain HIRAs, H&S files, safety plans, emergency plans, and all required registers.
- Lead safety meetings, prestart briefings, inductions (including visitor/site), and weekly safety drills.
- Deliver engaging safety training, awareness campaigns, and promote behaviouralbased safety across teams.
- Drive SHOC card participation, encourage hazard identification, and recognise safe behaviours.
- Investigate incidents, gather evidence, and ensure accurate leading and lagging indicator reporting.
- Support internal and subcontractor audits, field leadership walks, and ensure adherence to national legislation and international diving guidelines.
- Compile weekly KPI and safety reports, submit tender H&S deliverables, and attend clarification meetings/briefings.
- Maintain communication loopsgathering feedback, addressing top injury trends, and continuously improving the safety programme.
- Support Class Society audits, ensure compliance with requirements, and assist with tender and operational SHEQ needs.
- Relevant experience in a Safety Officer related role.
- Relevant SHEQ certifications (SAMTRAC, Legal Liability, Construction Regulations), HIRA competence, incident investigation training, and SACPCMP registration.
- Strong knowledge of current HSE legislation, safety/quality management systems, and the diving & maritime sector.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office with strong reporting, documentation, and administrative skills.
- Excellent verbal communication and confident clientfacing/interpersonal abilities.
- Able to lead investigations, conduct risk assessments, and support audits effectively.
- Highly organised with strong timemanagement skills and the ability to work well under pressure.
- Demonstrates strong work ethic, integrity, and high levels of organisational commitment.
