High-Level Overview
The client is seeking a Data Analysis Assistant to support implementation of a national energy-sector coordination and reform programme. The role will provide hands-on analytical, data management, and reporting support to technical teams and national counterparts, contributing to improved data availability, analytical capacity, performance monitoring, and reporting to support effective policy implementation and programme delivery, including in sectors such as energy, infrastructure, and economic development.

Key Deliverables:
Data Collection & Management Support
  • Support collection, compilation, and organisation of data from government institutions, programme teams, and partners.
  • Assist with data cleaning, validation, and basic quality checks to ensure accuracy and consistency.
  • Maintain structured datasets, spreadsheets, and simple databases in line with agreed data management protocols.
Data Analysis & Visualisation
  • Conduct basic quantitative and qualitative data analysis under the guidance of senior staff.
  • Support preparation of tables, charts, and visualisations for reports, presentations, and dashboards.
  • Assist in tracking key indicators and progress against targets.
Reporting & Documentation Support
  • Contribute to preparation of periodic reports, briefing notes, and analytical summaries.
  • Support documentation of data sources, assumptions, and methodologies.
  • Assist with version control, filing, and organisation of analytical outputs.
Systems & Tools Support
  • Support use and maintenance of data analysis and reporting tools (e.g. Excel-based trackers, simple dashboards).
  • Assist with data entry, updates, and routine checks for monitoring or performance-tracking systems.
  • Support onboarding of datasets from different sources into agreed formats.
Capacity Building & Learning Support
  • Participate in training and on-the-job learning related to data analysis, monitoring, and reporting.
  • Support knowledge-sharing activities and internal learning processes.
  • Gradually take on increased analytical responsibilities as capacity grows.
Key outputs
  • Cleaned and well-organised datasets and trackers
  • Analytical tables, charts, and basic visualisations
  • Inputs to periodic reports and briefing notes
  • Documentation of data sources and analytical methods
  • Completion or handover note summarising tasks supported and lessons learned
Requirements

Experience Required:
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in data analysis, statistics, research assistance, or monitoring and evaluation support.
  • Experience working with administrative data, surveys, or programme monitoring data is an advantage.
  • Previous experience supporting government or development programmes is desirable.

Technical Requirements:
  • Bachelors degree in Statistics, Economics, Data Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, Development Studies, or a related field.
  • Strong proficiency in Excel (data cleaning, formulas, pivot tables, charts).
  • Familiarity with data analysis or visualisation tools (e.g. Power BI, R, Python, SPSS, or STATA) is an asset.
  • Basic understanding of data quality, documentation, and analytical good practices.

Other Skills:
  • Fluency in English (oral and written) required.
  • Strong attention to detail and analytical rigour.
  • Ability to follow instructions, manage tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Willingness to learn and grow technical skills in a professional environment.
