Job Purpose
The Junior Management Accountant (JMA) plays a key role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data within the Control Team. Reporting to the Senior Financial Manager, the JMA is responsible for processing and reconciling financial transactions, liaising with external administrators to collect and validate financial data, and assisting with balance sheet reconciliations. This role supports the preparation of journal entries, accruals, and prepayments, contributing to the maintenance of internal financial controls. Additionally, the JMA assists in audit preparation and compliance activities, ensuring financial records align with regulatory and reporting requirements. This position provides an excellent opportunity to develop expertise in financial accounting and controls while working closely with senior finance professionals.
Key Responsibilities
Required Knowledge and Experience
- Liaise with external administrators to collect and validate financial data
- Support in the reconciliation of balance sheet accounts, ensuring accuracy and completeness, with a focus on insurance-related accounts.

- Process data from administrators into the general ledger (GL)
- Prepare balance sheet reconciliations for all accounts and investigate discrepancies (e.g., claims reserves, premiums, payables, receivables)
- Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial transactions
- Assist with reconciliation of control accounts
- Process journals for accruals, prepayments, and adjustments
- Assist in audit support by maintaining documentation and reconciliations
- Participate in the budgeting and forecasting processes, providing data analysis and input, particularly in relation to insurance product performance.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of financial processes and controls, particularly in relation to IFRS reporting and insurance industry practices.
- Work closely with other departments to gather financial information and support decision-making, particularly in relation to underwriting, claims, and reinsurance.
- Perform ad hoc financial analysis as required by senior finance staff, focusing on insurance-related financial performance.
- Financial Knowledge Understanding of accounting principles, financial reporting, and balance sheet reconciliation.
- Analytical Skills Ability to identify discrepancies, investigate variances, and ensure accuracy in financial data.
- Attention to Detail Strong focus on accuracy when processing transactions and reconciling accounts.
- Technical Skills Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with accounting software (e.g. GP, Oracle, HFM or similar) is a plus.
- Communication Skills Ability to liaise effectively with external administrators and internal stakeholders.
- Problem-Solving Ability Capable of resolving discrepancies in financial records and supporting process improvements.
- Time Management Ability to manage multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and work under pressure.
- Team Player Willingness to collaborate with colleagues and contribute to the finance teams objectives.
- Regulatory Awareness Basic understanding of financial regulations, compliance, and audit processes.Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or working towards qualification).
- Studying towards or willingness to pursue a professional accounting qualification (e.g., CA, ACCA, CIMA).
- Prior experience in an accounting or finance-related role within the Insurance Industry
