Quality Manager: Projects (contract): Energy Solutions: Woodmead (Gauteng)

Our client, a leading energy solutions company, is looking for a Quality Manager (projects) to join their team in Woodmead. This is a contract positions for 28 months.

The successful incumbent will be trustworthy and proactive with many years of engineering experience and proven leadership skills. It is expected that they will work on multiple projects at the same time, build and manage a diverse team of quality engineers, formulate and execute strategies, and co-ordinate with other managers. Their responsibilities include ensuring quality within the projects which includes works undertaken by the company and that of their suppliers, subcontractors and partners, and as required for the successful execution of Projects.

To be successful, the incumbent should have exceptional foresight, good communication skills, working knowledge of different Project disciplines and how they relate to one another, and an aptitude for managing risk. The incumbent will have proof of their skills and have an appreciation for the complex nature of the industry.

Duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Manage the scope of work allocated, completing within the time, budget and cash targets whilst optimising the margin of the Company. Provide support in the planning and management of projects to ensure they are executed on time, within the agreed budget and to the required specifications.
  • Drive Project quality culture, quality assurance, quality control and compliance with local codes and standards, law and regulations.
  • Ensure that the defined level of Quality is achieved by measuring, auditing, reporting on and by implementing the necessary actions to resolve quality issues within the Projects
  • Ensure that the Project Management Team understands the implications of the Contract requirements regarding Quality and of its application in the local environment (law, regulation, permits, code and standards).
  • Ensure that every Project team member has received adequate training of processes, tools and procedures applicable to meet the contractual project quality requirements to keep the Cost of Poor Quality at the minimum possible.
  • Ensure management of risk and opportunities arising from the quality requirement in the Contract.
  • Define and implement the Project Quality Plan reflecting the requirements of the Contract, regulatory requirements and the Business Management systems.
  • Produce Project specific applications notes, procedures, work instructions and inspection and test plans.
  • Take ownership of the Quality concept, solutions, risks / mitigation plans and supports the Business Development and Sales initiatives.
  • Regularly review the implementation of the Project Quality Plans and defined processes and tools within the Projects.
  • Responsible to trigger root cause analysis and determine the effects and consequences of the Cost of Poor Quality (COPQ) and to action claims against parties responsible, as well as to participate in implementing the necessary actions / lessons learnt.
  • Ensure the project quality requirements are included in the contracts with suppliers and sub -contractors and that an adequate level of QA/QC is applied to suppliers.
  • Conduct training for employees and hold Project kick-off meetings to ensure the Project Quality Plans are communicated and implemented within the Projects.
  • Participate in project reviews and ensure that quality control aspects are covered
  • Ensure that action plans are prepared for any quality related issues that may arise on the Project within MPW-AFR, its suppliers, contractors and suppliers.
  • Manage staff and assign tasks to the Project quality personnel.
  • Manage the conformity of the works at all times ensuring that all organisational as well as client requirements and specifications are met.
  • Ensure that progress reports on all projects are issued on a weekly and monthly basis.
  • Developing and management of relationship with customers, ensuring communication is clear and addressing issues effectively.
  • Estimation of resources required to execute the works.
  • Develop a detailed project schedule and work plan for the project quality requirements.
  • Control and report on closing of shop inspection reports, NCR's and CAR's within the Projects.
  • Produce, manages and issue the Inspections and Test schedules to the customers.
  • Ensure that Project audits are undertaken on time, followed up and any actions are closed out.
  • Ensure preparation and issuing of the customers inspection notifications, non-compliance reporting to the customers, Project Documentation requirements and how to prepare end of manufacturing reports.
  • Interface at all levels and across all functions within the organisation.
  • Participate in the lesson learnt process including the cost of poor quality.
  • Able to identify misalignment with goals, objectives and work direction against project strategy
  • Support the Business throughout Sales and Tendering phases by representing the Business in terms of Quality to the Customer including Project Quality Plans, reviewing of customer quality requirements, prepare the quality section of offers.
  • Perform ad hoc responsibilities as and when assigned by the Chief Operating Officer.
Requirements
  • A minimum of B. Degree in Quality Management or equivalent.
  • Project Management qualification will be an added advantage
  • A minimum of 10 years' experience as an Engineer in heavy industry
  • Extensive technical knowledge of integrated power technology including HRSG's boilers, turbines, renewable energy, off-grid solutions, batteries etc. is required.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Fluent spoken / written English is essential
  • Excellent technical presentation skills, project management and people management skills.
  • Attention to detail, critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Must be proficient in all MS Packages.
  • Must be willing and able to travel both locally and internationally
  • Ability to travel throughout sub Saharan Africa on a frequent basis
