Job Purpose

To manage the strategy; planning; organising; negotiating; staffing; directing and controlling of all aspects of projects/solutions or programmes for a portfolio in ensuring the successful implementation to realize the business strategy. Escalates impediments, manages risk, helps assure value delivery and helps drive continuous improvement. Hybrid role that balances Agile leadership and program management to help software development teams build and deliver solutions more efficiently. Leveraging the solid grasp of how to scale Lean and Agile practices and understand the unique opportunities and challenges associated with facilitating and continuously aligning large development programs.

Job Responsibilities
  • Ensure Solutions/projects are delivered on target within due date, budget and according to scope and governance
  • Facilitate PI Planning readiness and /or event by fostering a Continuous Exploration process which drives the synthesis of a Vision, a Roadmap, and Backlogs, and through Pre- and Post-PI Planning meetings
  • Summarize Team PI Objectives into Program PI Objectives (the RTE) and publish them for visibility and transparency

  • Facilitate periodic synchronization meetings, including the ART sync at the Essential Level and the value stream sync for Solution Trains
  • Assist with economic decision-making by facilitating feature and capability estimation by teams and the roll-up to Epics, where necessary
  • Manage branch budget and the allocation of project resource costs appropriately across the portfolio
  • Ensure quality projects by making amendments to processes, structures, operating models and business plans to ensure optimal team delivery
  • Ensure collaboration across business units and facilitate mutually beneficial outcomes across the stakeholders.
  • Work with Product and Solution Management, Product Owners, and other stakeholders to help ensure strategy and execution alignment
  • Ensure deviations are managed timeously and delivery meets customer expectations by driving project management standards for all projects
  • Ensure traceability of business benefits of all projects in business unit to realisation.
  • Improve the flow of value through value streams by improving and assessing the practices associated with DevOps and Release on Demand in the Continuous Delivery Pipeline
  • Coach the lean-agile mindset and practices to members of the agile release train, including scrum masters, agile team members and business owners
  • Ensure best practice service delivery by ensuring that client needs are accurately captured in scope and signed off by stakeholders
  • Support the creation, and relentless improvement, of a continuous delivery pipeline by promoting DevOps practices within the organisation
  • Manage stakeholder expectations across portfolio through managing the interaction and interface between stakeholders
  • Translate strategy into operational plans through the understanding of the impacted strategic view in relation to their portfolio and participate in building appropriate rolling three year plan
  • Facilitate the decision making process of various stages in the project initiation life cycle and acceptance criteria including conceptualization, creation of business case, benefits realization and engaging of various parties
  • Create retrospective improvement roadmaps by analyzing all activities and actions that have previously been performed and finding ways to improve each process.
  • The communication should be transparent and done in a professional way. Agile teams work on different parts of the same products. Conduct regular sync-up sessions for scrum masters so that they know whats happening in the other teams. This helps in building good relationships among teams.
  • Ensure satisfactory post implementation review practices in place across portfolio through post implementation review meeting
  • Teach their teams, leaders and scrum masters about the combination of Lean and Agile management practices and ideologies. They should motivate the teams and provide valuable feedback, training, and guidance regularly.
  • Optimise efficiency and embed correct values by ensuring direct and indirect reports understand and support Nedbank's vision, values and strategy and are measured on delivery against these.
  • Co-manage performance of project resources and hold them accountable for co-managing the performance of their reports by implementing performance agreements, ensuring a clear vision, agreeing on goals and objectives, providing regular feedback on performance, recognising and rewarding achievement and take appropriate corrective action where required.
  • Create an environment that facilitates positive team health as well as provide guidance and management to all workers to ensure goals are met.
  • Drive to execute own and direct reports planned development by attending learning, seeking coaching or other industry or technical learning events and opportunities.
  • Build depth of skills and knowledge in the team of managers by sharing knowledge and insight with team members Suring mentoring, coaching and day to day activities.
  • Ensure continuous improvement goals are achieved by creating an environment whereby self, managers and team are encouraged to challenge the status quo by initiating constructive debates about work practices and areas for improvement.
  • Improve productivity and reduce costs by improving work processes through offering innovative ideas and input and soliciting input from managers and teams.
  • Contribute to a culture conducive to the achievement of transformation goals and support business strategies that improve the corporate image by ensuring self, managers and team participation in Nedbank culture building initiatives.
  • Deliver a world class service through others by ensuring a client centric culture through required interventions.
  • Effectively deal with escalations and deviations and ensure that the process for escalation is adhered to.
  • Ensure effective risk and issue management, whereby risks and issues are mitigated correctly so that uncertainty, complexity and abiguity can be tolerated and escalated
  • Contribute positively to the Nedbank culture and inspire delivery of our purpose of using our financial expertise to do good and in so doing, drive greater impact in society.
  • Work with the Agile Program Management Office (APMO) on program execution and operational excellence (see Lean Portfolio Management)
Essential Qualifications - NQF Level
  • Matric / Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate
  • Professional Qualifications/Honours Degree
Preferred Qualification
  • SMP or equivalent
  • PMP or Prince certification or equivalent PM framework & Leading SAFe certification
Essential Certifications
