About the role

At MMG, Our people are as diverse as our assets and the work is varied. Based between (SA / DRC FIFO / DRC Local) , you will partner with colleagues from Peru, Africa, China, Laos and Australia, to gather information and provide best practice advice and governance to align the assets to MMGs strategy. The Specialist - Sourcing & Contacting role contributes to ourSourcing & Contracting Supply Team. The team is focused on Sourcing and Contracting Specialists / Analysts to ensure that MMG derives maximum value from its external spend. This is accomplished through structured market engagements and ongoing category and contract stewardship. To achieve this, Sourcing and Contracting Specialists require strong written and verbal communication skills; the ability to analyse the capabilities, costs and risks posed by MMGs suppliers; and the ability to negotiate and capture favourable commercial outcomes in contract documents.

The role requires
  • At least 10 years experience in Procurement or Supply Chain Sourcing roles. (Alternative relevant industry experience in other Functional areas would also be considered e.g. Finance, Commercial, Operations)
  • Experience in strategic sourcing , developing commercial arrangements and capture of outcomes in contract documentation
  • Proven ability to identify, deliver total cost reduction and efficiency opportunities.
  • Preferably degree qualified in a Commercial/Business discipline or Engineering.
  • Robust understanding of MMG Standards and Process Framework
  • Mining site services in the DRC is a must and understanding of the DRC Subcontracting Law.
  • Strong knowledge of contract terms and conditions is essential.
  • Non-negotiable SAP working knowledge
  • Understand Services scope of work, bills of quantities, specifications to ensure complete tender packs are generated and included within executed agreements
  • Familiarity with legal and risk framework for contract execution and contract management in the various jurisdictions in which MMG operates.
  • Familiarity with MMGs Strategy and Operating Model
  • Familiarity or ability to develop the requirements, specifications, and needs of specific services required on a mine site
  • Understanding of Category Management, Strategic Sourcing and Negotiation models and approaches

You will be responsible for:

Sourcing and Contracting Specialists / Analysts are responsible for the planning and execution of sourcing activities to select suppliers capable of fulfilling MMGs needs, and for the on-going stewardship of particular categories of external spend. Specific accountabilities and activities include:

Category Stewardship

Contribute to category planning through:
  • Category segmentation, spend analysis, cost driver analysis and strategic positioning
  • Understanding the categorys global supply base, with a focus on low-cost-country, China sourcing and Local sourcing
  • Developing a forward view of business requirements, identifying emerging technologies, suppliers, continuous improvement and other opportunities that may deliver value to MMG
  • Maintain collaborative and effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Provide category insights where required, to support business decisions including project development, M&A, financial forecasting and other similar activities.
  • Manage or assist in the management of selected contracts, including supplier performance reviews, validation and expedition of contract deliverables, rate reviews, rectification of under-performance, process compliance, and associated activities.
Planning of Sourcing Activities:

Ongoing planning of major market engagements, Including :
    • Review of expiring contracts and prioritisation of category plan initiatives
    • Loading of planned activities in MMGs on-line platform (Ariba)
Completion of Internal Analysis

In conjunction with internal stakeholders, document business requirements in a manner suitable for engaging prospective suppliers, including:
  • Capture and optimisation of technical specifications and operational timeline
  • Development of scopes of work
  • Incorporation of applicable MMG Standards
  • Identify and mitigate operational and commercial risks through high quality contract drafting, including incorporation of KPIs and other performance mechanisms
Execute Market Engagements
  • Administer market engagements through MMGs on-line platform (Ariba)
  • Plan and execute negotiation strategies to improve outcomes from market engagements, including negotiation of Specifications and timelines Prices, price adjustment mechanisms and incentives.
  • Risk apportionment and contract terms and conditions
  • Facilitate and participate in the evaluation of supplier proposals
Identify trade-offs and facilitate decision making for supplier selection by articulating:
  • Differentiated capabilities and risk profiles of supply options
  • Total cost of ownership and other commercial outcomes
Capture maximum value for MMG by:
  • Reducing the total cost of ownership of externally sourced goods and services
  • Ensuring externally sourced goods and services meet or exceed MMGs requirements
  • Leading negotiation and agreement of legal terms and conditions prioritising MMGs precedent positions
  • Ensuring all elements of negotiated outcomes are adequately reflected in contract documentation
Documentation of Outcomes
  • Concisely capture in governance documentation why particular sourcing outcomes are recommended, including evaluation and quantification of capability, cost and risk
  • Obtain authorisation to implement negotiated outcomes in compliance with MMGs Authority Standard In conjunction with legal counsel, draft and execute contract documents
  • Complete contract and supplier administration through MMGs ERP platforms (SAP; Ariba)
  • Handover of outcomes to end-users and, where appropriate
  • Contract management personnel
In addition to the Specialist - Sourcing and Contractings task specific accountabilities, there is a requirement to contribute to the continuous improvement of activities undertaken by the Supply Chain team by:
  • Contributing to the review and development of engaging cross-functional peers to identify and implement new and improved processes and disciplines for Supply Chain
  • Building and maintaining strong relationships with internal customers, peers and external partners
  • Contributing to achievement of targets across the overall Supply Chain index
