Purpose of Position:

To process specimens according to set criteria and standards on all benches in the Molecular Biology Laboratory

Requirements:

Bachelor of Science Honours, HPCSA Registration in Relevant Register and Practice Field, National Diploma: Biomedical Technology

Required Experience:

Experiential training in a training laboratory, Knowledge: HPCSA regulations, Knowledge: Meditech system, Knowledge: Occupational Health and Safety Act (OSHA)

Key Responsibilities:

Assist with the development and evaluation of new assays when equired, Ensure that accreditation and Quality Control related tasks are performed to ensure standards are upheld, Maintain good client relations to promote the image of Ampath, Monitor assay result analysis and reporting on the different detection platforms in order to ensure rapid and accurate reporting, Monitor receiving and processing of specimens in the extraction area in order to ensure efficient delivery of results, Monitor the HIV viral load bench to ensure acceptable turnaround times, Monitor the overall discipline, workflow, turn around time and task distribution within the department on a daily basis, Perform Laboratory information system (Meditech) dictionary maintenance when required, Perform Materials Management related tasks in order to ensure effective control over stock and to ensure sufficient stock levels at all times, Training off laboratory staff and performing competency assessments
