Job Description
The University of Johannesburg is actively recruiting for a Lecturer in the Department of Marketing Management in the School of Consumer Intelligence and Information Systems.
The Incumbent Will Be Expected To
Teaching and learning: Delivering engaging and informative lectures on various Marketing Management modules, catering to both undergraduate and postgraduate students. Designing assessments and grading student work accurately and promptly.
Research: Engaging in extensive research within the broad fields of Marketing Management, contributing to the development of new knowledge and advancements in the discipline.
Research Pipeline: Establishing and maintaining a steady research pipeline to ensure consistent and impactful contributions to the academic community.
Professional Partnerships: Cultivating and nurturing professional relationships with industry partners to facilitate collaboration, internships, and research opportunities for students and the department.
Supervision: Postgraduate research project supervision at Honours and Masters levels is expected. Additionally, the candidate should demonstrate a willingness to learn and develop toward supervising Doctoral students, with training and mentorship opportunities to support this career progression.
Academic Administration: Assisting in academic administrative tasks and contributing to the efficient functioning of the department.
Committee Participation and Leadership: The role requires active engagement in departmental, faculty, and college-level committees, contributing expertise to decision-making processes and strategic initiatives. This includes leading and participating in various committees to support the academic, research, and operational goals of the department and institution.
Leadership Support: Contributing to academic leadership initiatives within the department.
Minimum Requirements
Teaching and Learning (Lecturing):
- A relevant Masters degree in Marketing Management (or an equivalent qualification at NQF Level 9 in the field of Marketing and/ or Retail) is the minimum requirement, with current enrolment in or completion of a PhD in Marketing Management (or an equivalent qualification at NQF Level 10) being highly advantageous but is not a prerequisite to have completed a PhD at the time of application.
- Lecturing experience in Marketing Management and related subjects, such as Retail, at a recognized higher education institution.
- Proficiency in online learning environments, with the ability to deliver lectures and facilitate learning on a digital platform, such as Moodle or similar Learning Management Systems (LMS).
- Ability to teach Marketing Research, with a strong understanding of research methodologies and their application in marketing contexts.
- While not essential, the ability to teach statistical techniques for data analysis would be an added advantage. The candidate is expected to develop proficiency in various statistical packages to analyze and interpret data effectively.
- Demonstrated ability to integrate emerging technologies into the teaching plan successfully.
- Experience leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) to enhance the teaching and learning environment, ensuring innovative and effective educational delivery.
At the lecturer level, it is essential to demonstrate research competencies through tangible academic contributions. This includes:
- Conference Paper Publications Presenting research findings at accredited conferences showcases engagement with the academic community, dissemination of knowledge, and the ability to contribute to scholarly discussions.
- Involvement in Research Projects Active participation in faculty, collaborative, or industry-linked research initiatives reflects the ability to conduct rigorous academic inquiry and contribute to knowledge creation.
- A research profile, such as a Google Scholar Profile, will be an advantage but is not essential at this level.
- Developing a strong research profile through these activities enhances academic credibility, supports career progression, and strengthens the institutions research output.

- Proven experience in successfully supervising postgraduate research projects at the Honours level. While not mandatory, experience supervising at the Masters level would be an added advantage.
- Articulate in quantitative and/or qualitative methodology skills.
- Evidence of academic engagement and research contributions, including presentations at accredited conferences and, where possible, publications in accredited journals. While not mandatory, a record of DHET-accredited research publications would be a significant advantage.
