LECTURER (ONE POST)

Responsibilities

The incumbent will be responsible for:
  • Teaching in and coordinating the following module offered by the Department of Public Law at both undergraduate and postgraduate level, which involve taking a contextual and transformative approach:
    • International Environmental Law;
  • Conducting academic scholarly research;
  • Engaging with the community through teaching, supervision and research that is embedded in and responsive to the South African, African and global context;
  • Having an in-depth understanding of own area of specialisation to enable development of new knowledge, innovation and understanding within the field;
  • Supervising masters students;
  • Mentoring students at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels;
  • Academic administration and management;
  • Performing other duties as delegated by Head of the Department.
Minimum Requirements

Lecturer:
  • LLM in the discipline of International Environmental Law;
  • Evidence of community engagement being embedded in the candidate's research and/or teaching;
  • Relevant tertiary teaching experience will be a strong recommendation;
  • Relevant academic administration experience will be a strong recommendation;

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES (SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURAL
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a dynamic team;
  • Appropriate communication skills;
  • Ability to plan and initiate discipline-related research.
Added Advantages
  • Some experience in online teaching and learning;
  • Evidence of scholarly writing in the field or related field;
  • Progress towards a doctoral degree in the field of international environmental law.
The annual remuneration package will be commensurate with the incumbents level of appointment, as determined by UP policy guidelines. UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
