The New Generation of Academics Programme (nGAP) is a Department of Higher Education and Training nationally funded programme that involves recruiting a new cohort of young academics. The programme is transformative in nature, and priority is given to designated candidates. Candidates must be 40 years or younger. The programme enables nGAP appointments to benefit from teaching and research development opportunities and requires the incumbent to register for their PhD or postdoctoral studies if required.

Responsibilities:

In line with the Department of Higher Education and Training's nGAP, the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Johannesburg is seeking to make a permanent appointment of a lecturer in the Department of Emergency Medical Care. We are seeking an exceptionally motivated, qualified, and ambitious aspirant academic to contribute to and expand the Departments current teaching and research focus areas.

The Successful Candidate Will Be Expected To Contribute Meaningfully To The Projects Of The Department And Teach In Undergraduate Modules And Supervise Undergraduate And Postgraduate Students In The Department Of Emergency Medical Care. The Successful Candidate Should Demonstrate An Eagerness To Participate In Changing The South African Landscape Through Education. Specific Responsibilities Include:
  • Facilitate teaching, learning and assessment activities for undergraduate emergency medical care students.
  • Participate in, and facilitate, clinical learning and/or related WIL, simulated learning events and placements, including the mentoring of students on the clinical learning platform.
  • Develop and refine course materials.
  • Organize and participate in physical fitness and swimming training including the conducting of related assessments where necessary.
  • Annually publish peer-reviewed papers in accredited scholarly journals and deliver papers at national and international conferences.
  • Actively conduct research.
  • Supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students.
  • Be actively involved in all Departmental academic and administrative activities/duties (e.g. audit or accreditation preparations, participation in official meetings and gatherings).
Minimum Requirements

  • A Masters degree in Emergency Medical Care (NQF-9) or an appropriate professional qualification (NQF-9) in the field of emergency medical care with a mark of 70% or more. A successful incumbent (without a PhD qualification) will be required to commit to register for their PhD post commencement of duties.
  • Two years of registration (and currently registered) with the HPCSA as an Emergency Care Practitioner.
  • Code B drivers license.
  • Candidates must be able to pass departmental physical fitness and swimming assessments.
Competencies And Behavioural Attributes:

  • Good interpersonal skills as well as the ability to interact with colleagues.
  • Excellent planning and organizational skills.
  • Enthusiastic, tenacious and have a passion for clinical work and teaching.
Recommendations:

  • A Doctoral degree in Emergency Medical Care (NQF-10) and obtained a minimum of 70% in their Masters.
  • One to two years' of working experience in teaching and learning.
  • Knowledge of faculty and academic policies, rules, and regulations.
  • A track record of postgraduate research supervision and peer-reviewed publication in the field of emergency medical care.
  • Experience with online and or remote learning platforms.
