The overall purpose of the Maintenance Manager role is to co-ordinate, coach and control the activities of maintenance teams in the production and process environment and to provide specialist technical advice to ensure maximum equipment availability this includes managing all aspects of the maintenance department (mechanical and electrical) including the Engineering Store. The incumbent must understand the Occupational Health and Safety Act and and be willing to accept general machinery regulations 2.7 legal appointment.
Qualifications And Experience
- Must have completed Mechanical or Electrical qualification
- Must be a qualified Artisan in the Engineering trade; preferably mechanical
- At least 5 years relevant experience at managerial / supervisory level
- At least 5 years relevant poultry / abattoir experience
- Must be computer literate, and have experience with MS Office
- Have knowledge in planned & preventative maintenance program
- Keep updated with trends and new developments of HACCP, 20 keys and maintenance programmes
- Ability to solve problems related to HACCP and 20 keys
- Highly aware of safety, health and hygiene stipulations and very cautious to reduce errors
- LN System or related ERP system
- The incumbent must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
- Excellent problem-solving skills;
- Ability to work under pressure and swift attendance of any maintenance issues
- Must be able to work independently and cope well under pressure;
- Must understand and have able to balance situational and systemic maintenance work
- Must be a self-starter, and willing to work with different stakeholders
- It is essential that the successful candidate be self-motivated with the ability to meet strict deadlines.

Administration
- Co-ordinate maintenance activities
- Execute the maintenance plan.
- Manage maintenance department costs
- Oversee daily stock usage and storage
- Control all overtime worked in the maintenance department
- Co-ordinate annual leave rosters and manage leave for departments, with support from the Maintenance Planner, Foremen and Supervisors
- Be the 20 Keys management system Facilitator
- Co-ordinates planned and preventative maintenance by setting defined objectives, delegating authority and responsibility and maintaining effective communication channels.
- Control maintenance by measuring performance relative to the objectives above, evaluating deviations and directing subordinates toward improvement.
- Conduct weekly inspections of the workshop ensuring that a high standard of housekeeping and safety is being maintained.
- Manage the execution of maintenance activities
- Manage job observations
- Participate in team problem solving and maintenance programme development
- Locate plant, equipment, spares and relevant documentation/ systems
- Monitor and control projects in progress in the different departments.
- Directs and advises Maintenance planner and all staff in the department.
- Co-ordinate production by setting defined objectives, delegating authority and responsibility and maintaining effective communication channels.
- Controls production by measuring performance relative to the objectives above, evaluating deviations and directing subordinates toward improvement.
- Ensure competency gaps are identified and addressed
- Ensure that team members are competent in their work to ensure effective performance of the maintenance team
- Conducts daily inspections of the factory ensuring that a high standard of housekeeping and safety are being maintained.
- Plan individual training plans to address any competency gaps to ensure teams are developed
- Foster commitment and conformance to requirements of quality and risk management systems and 20 Keys and any other company management systems requirements.
