Role Purpose
The Management Accountant will support a project-based international business by providing weekly cashflow forecasts, project-level financial analysis, and management reporting.
This role is forward-looking, not transactional.
The primary objective is to identify cash risks early and support management decisions.
Key Responsibilities
Cashflow Forecasting (Core Responsibility)
- Build and maintain a rolling 1213 week weekly cashflow forecast
- Track cash inflows and outflows by project
- Apply probability weighting to expected revenue
- Identify cash gaps 68 weeks in advance
- Update forecasts weekly based on actuals and pipeline changes
- Monitor project cash burn and timing mismatches
- Track invoices, expected payment dates, and retentions
- Analyse project margins vs cash position
- Highlight cash-negative projects early
- Prepare monthly management accounts (P&L, cashflow view, balance snapshot)
- Perform budget vs actual vs forecast analysis
- Provide clear variance explanations and recommendations
- Prepare concise summaries for non-finance stakeholders
- Use Sage Accounting (or similar) as the source of actuals
- Maintain forecasts and models in Excel / Google Sheets
- Review outputs from bookkeeping teams (no transaction capture)
- Ensure project coding and data consistency
- Work closely with project managers to validate billing and milestones
- Support Finance Lead / CFO with decision-ready insights
- Communicate financial risks clearly and professionally
Essential
- 48 years experience in management accounting
- Strong experience with cashflow forecasting
- Exposure to project-based businesses (EPC, IT services, infrastructure, consulting)
- Advanced Excel / Google Sheets skills
- Experience working with international clients
- Strong written and verbal English communication
- Experience with Sage / Xero / NetSuite
- Experience supporting businesses with long payment terms (3090 days)
- Prior offshore / shared-services experience
- CA / CMA / MBA (Finance) preferred but not mandatory
- Weekly cashflow forecast delivered on time, every week
- Clear identification of cash risks before they occur
- Accurate project-level cash visibility
- Management decisions supported with actionable insights
- No unexpected cash or payment surprises
