Role Description
We are seeking a full-time, on-site Operations Manager based in Durban to lead and execute our daily fuel distribution operations.
This is a hands-on role, responsible for managing drivers, tanker operations, customer deliveries, and operational reporting. The successful candidate will take ownership of systems, processes, and performance - ensuring that vehicles, people, and documentation are aligned every day.
Key responsibilities include:
- Managing and coordinating a fleet of fuel tankers and drivers
- Overseeing daily dispatch, deliveries, and breakdown response
- Owning daily and weekly operational reporting
- Ensuring compliance with fuel, transport, and safety regulations
- Managing PODs, volumes, and customer queries
- Implementing and improving operational systems and controls
- Building strong relationships with customers, suppliers, and service providers
- Coaching, supervising, and holding staff accountable
- Driving efficiency, cost control, and service excellence
Qualifications & Experience
- Proven experience in transport or logistics operations management
- Experience in bulk fuel, petroleum, or hazardous goods transport is highly advantageous
- Strong operational reporting and systems management capability
- Sound knowledge of safety, compliance, and quality standards
- Ability to manage drivers and frontline staff effectively
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
- High level of personal accountability and attention to detail
- Confident communicator with customers and internal teams
- Proficient in Excel and operational systems
- Relevant tertiary or professional qualifications are an advantage
