Job description
Highveld Mushrooms is looking for a Operational Manager to manage, control, plan, lead and organize all the operational (pack house, distribution, security and non production area of the farm) and staffing aspects. The position will be based on a commerical farm in the Mnandi - Centurion Pretoria.
Qaulifications and Experience
1.1 Matric/ Grade 12
1.2 Tertiary qualification will be an advantage
1.3 Computer Literate (word, excel, outlook)
1.4 Min 58-year previous experience in a similar role
1.5 Managerial Experience is essential
1.6 Valid drivers license and own reliable transport
1.7 Must HAVE retail experience back-round, ability to work weekends and Public Holidays
Skills and Abilities
1. Pack house management
- Liaise with production and sales on a daily basis to ensure that customers orders can be fulfilled as best as possible at the required delivery times.
- Ensure effective stock rotation
- Ensure that workflows are optimised in order to save costs, maintain the cold chain and comply with food safety routines.
- Ensure that the day to day management and staffing including leave cover and adherence to the company policies and procedures occurs.
- In conjunction with the technologist, implement, develop, manage and evolve the food safety and hygiene regimes in the Pack House and distribution fleet.
- Manage and co-ordinate the different food safety audits from the respective customers and ensure that the business achieves the highest standard possible, but at least achieves compliance status.
- Manage the ordering, buying and price negotiations of packaging and associated materials for the Pack House.
- Manage and ensure that the Policies and Procedures for the Pack House are implemented, followed and updated when necessary.
- Manage and accounts for supplier lugs.
2. Dispatch
- Mange the full dispatching function.
- Ensure that any areas for losses to the company in terms of the dispatch and returns procedure are eliminated.
- Ensures that returns are correctly checked and that they are converted / discarded where applicable.
- Manage and report on the mushroom stock losses and throughput on a weekly basis.
- Ensure that all company policies and procedures applicable to the dispatching function are adhered to.
3. Distribution
- Manage and plan the efficient delivery of stock using the resources available, to provide the best customer service.
- Ensure that the delivery fleet is maintained within service parameters as specified by the vehicle manufacturers.
- Ensure that the delivery fleet is kept clean at all times.
- Process relevant insurance claims.
- Liaise with sales and customers as to the delivery of stock from queries raised, or apparent late deliveries or problems.
- Manage drivers.
- Monitor and ensure that the delivery vehicles are operated according to the authorized procedures.
4. Human resources functions
- Process all wage information.
- Form part of the negotiating.
- Both initiate and take the role as Disciplinary in conjunction with the HR department.
- Form part of the Management representative on the Provident Fund Committee..
- Ensure that all fixed term employees have the required contractual obligations completed and that they do not work past their contract end dates.
- Manage staff transport, making sure that it operates according to agreed rules.
- Report poor timekeeping, absenteeism and excessive sick days to relevant supervisor/manager for action.
5. Non-Production Areas
- Ensure that the housekeeping of non-mushroom production areas is kept to the required standards. If not, report to the relevant person responsible, or take action.
- Ensure that the Laundry and Change rooms and Green areas are kept at the standards required by the Hygiene standards in force at the time, as well as the operation thereof.
- Manage the relationship and service delivery of the appointed security company.
- Ensure that the security of the greater property and buildings is adequate and that the installed systems in the Pack House are regularly tested and are operational.
