Our Trust & Safety team's commitment is to keep our online community safe. We have invested heavily in human and machine-based moderation to remove harmful content quickly and often before it reaches our general community.

The Trust & Safety Policy team develops and reviews our community policies to promote a positive and safe environment for all of our Users and Content Creators to enjoy and express themselves.

We are looking for an Outreach & Partnerships Manager to ensure that our policy development, community guidelines, and policy enforcement are informed by external experts and advisors with a deep understanding of issue areas that are prevalent on the platform.

As an Outreach & Partnerships Manager, you are a primary contact between Global Trust & Safety and external stakeholders to gather feedback and test ideas that will enhance our policies and products. In this role, you will work closely with the entire Trust & Safety Product Policy and Product & Process teams, as well as cross-functional partners in Public Policy, Communications, Legal, and Operations to ensure that TikTok cultivates policies that promote creativity and joy while keeping our community safe.

You have an insatiable appetite for protecting users and significant experience facilitating productive dialogue with internal teams and the communities they seek to serve. You will serve as an external ambassador for TikTok and will be proficient in constituent outreach, building partnerships, and creating forums to inform policies, processes, and internal training.
Please note, this role must be based in Johannesburg, South Africa.

It is possible that this role will be exposed to harmful content as part of the core role/as part of project/ in response to escalation requests/by chance.Some content viewed may violate our community guidelines which include but are not limited to bullying; hate speech; child abuse; sexual assault; torture; bestiality; self-harm; suicide; murder.

What will I be doing?
- Research, identify, and collaborate with external experts (e.g. academia, civil sector players, Key Opinion Leaders, etc.) and leverage their expertise and resources to develop corresponding safety programs to improve the Trust & Safety approach to key issue areas;
- Collaborate with internal teams to draft strategic plans for one or more of our issue verticals (e.g. Minor Safety, Harassment/Bullying, Platform Integrity, Hateful Behavior, Adult Nudity, and Sexual Activity) in an effort to enhance the safety of our users and trust in the platform;
- Lead the planning and execution of fact-checking program phases: research, identify, onboard, and train external partners; and support onboarding programs for fact-checking agencies and other third-parties;
- Act as a representative and spokesperson on TikToks Trust & Safety policies, procedures, product features, and internal workflows within your designated Issue Verticals;
- Build and collaborate with all Outreach & Partnership Management colleagues and key XFN partners for increased efficiency and effective responsiveness into existing workstreams, and help to define new operational strategies for the implementation of external feedback;
- Occasionally travel to manage stakeholders and projects.

Qualifications

What should I bring with me?
- 7+ years of experience in business, partnerships, product marketing, policy programming, operations, support management, or project management;
- Understanding of the NGO/civil society landscape in Sub-Saharan Africa;
- Knowledge of mainstream video-sharing products and experience designing programs relating to stakeholder engagement, advocacy and online safety initiatives;
- Experience working independently and with global cross-function teams such as policy, legal, operations, and product;
- Ability to drive projects cross-functionally, run consensus-based stakeholder management, and build positive relationships with both internal and external partners;
- An excellent communicator in written and verbal form across technical and non-technical audiences;
- Experience planning and leading strategic initiatives and events;
- Experience at a fast-growing tech company and/or a global company;
- Nimble business mind with a focus on developing creative solutions;
- Entrepreneurial spirit, self-driven, and high EQ;
- Fluency in English and any Sub-Saharan Africa language as you will be covering the Sub-Saharan Africa market and will need these skills to communicate with stakeholders
