The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive, talent-focused institutional strategy aimed at attracting, deploying, developing, retaining, and optimising the talent needed as outlined in the university's workforce plan. Additionally, the incumbent will oversee the University of Pretorias performance management process by developing system standards and procedures, and by offering guidance and support to ensure consistent implementation across the institution. This role also involves creating and executing strategies that enhance, align, and support individual and team performance to drive the sustained achievement of the universitys objectives.
Responsibilities
The incumbents responsibilities:
- Lead the design, development, and execution of the institutions talent management strategy;
- Implement the institutions talent management framework, monitor and report institutional talent management activities;
- Create tools and resources to support individual talent development planning and career progression;
- Develop and execute a framework for workforce planning, modelling, and forecasting;
- Develop and maintain a comprehensive talent retention framework and strategy, aligned with the Universitys recruitment and selection strategy;
- Evaluate and provide input to the institutional remuneration strategies to improve retention probabilities;
- Identify and monitor potential retention risks, and conduct ongoing market trend analysis related to talent retention, including reward and remuneration trends, in partnership with the Remuneration & Benefits division;
- Establish and oversee a succession management framework, ensuring regular monitoring and reporting on succession readiness across the institution;
- Lead the implementation of the Universitys integrated performance and talent management strategy;
- Provide guidance and support for the consistent and effective rollout of the performance management system;
- Drive the alignment, development, and continuous improvement of individual and team performance in support of the Universitys long-term goals;
- Contribute to the cultivation of a high-performance organisational culture through effective talent management and retention initiatives;
- Provide strategic reports to Executive Management on matters related to performance and talent management; and
- Conduct institutional audits on performance and talent management and reporting to management structures.
- Honour's degree in Human Resource Management or a related field;
- A minimum of five years' experience in Human Resources, including at least three years in a specialist role focused on Performance Management; and
- Proven experience in the development and implementation of Performance and Talent Management policies and strategies.
- A good understanding of the importance of performance and talent management;
- Basic understanding of the higher education environment;
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
- Good presentation skills
- Ability to facilitate workshops and conduct one-on-one interviews;
- Good interpersonal skills;
- Advanced computer and data analysis skills;
- Good planning and organising skills
- Ability to advise and resolve conflicts around performance management
- Knowledge of project management
- Attention to detail
- Master's degree in Human Resource Management or related field;
- Professional registration with SABPP or IPM;
- Knowledge and experience of the higher education environment;
- Knowledge and experience of working with PeopleSoft;
The total remuneration package for this position will be as determined by UP remuneration policy guidelines. (These amounts include the Universitys contributions to standard UP benefits, namely provident fund, group life and funeral cover, but exclude contributions to medical aid, as the latter varies per employee.) UP subscribes to the BESTMED and UMVUZO medical aid schemes and contributes 50% of the applicable monthly premium.
