Phaphama SEDI, a non-profit student-run consulting organization, is looking for innovative and dedicated students like you to join our team.
 
At Phaphama, we believe that the intersection of education and entrepreneurship holds the key to creating a more inclusive and economically vibrant South Africa. Our organization connects senior university students with small and medium enterprises in the Khayelitsha, Philippi and Kayamandi areas, who lack support in meeting their entrepreneurial goals. Our student-consultant teams work together to help grow these businesses, while also gaining valuable real-world skills and experience.
 
Founded in 2014 by a group of dynamic UCT students, Phaphama SEDI has a rich history of impact. To date, we have worked with over 100 small businesses and over 300 student consultants, providing them with opportunities for growth, networking, and support. Our program is guided by six key principles: inclusivity, adaptability, collaboration, innovation, sustainability, and community.
 
Throughout the year, our program provides workshops, mentorship, and funding opportunities to help entrepreneurs and student consultants reach their full potential. Our mid-year Lions Den program even offers funding for the businesses, allowing for even more growth and success.
This year, we are extending our team to Stellenbosch, so our teams of consultants will be diverse with students from Western Cape.

What we offer you
A hands on consulting experience focussed around socio economic issues facing entrepreneurs in Kayamandi. As a Phaphama consultant you will have access to a wealth of information and experience through working with our entrepreneurs, attending our workshops featuring inspiring speakers and participating in our lively networking events. We want to emphasise that joining Phaphama as a consultant will benefit both you and the entrepreneur you are paired with.
Profile
We are looking for consultant teams with dynamic skill-sets. We welcome applicants
from all faculties, preferably in their senior years of their undergraduate degrees or
postgraduate students. Anyone who is committed to the programme, inspired by
what we do and eager to give their best are welcome on board.
Details
The applicants we are looking for, first and foremost, need to be committed to the
programme and the entrepreneurs they are working with. Remember, the
entrepreneurs have given up their time to work with you and thus you have a
responsibility to be loyal and attentive to them.
Sessions will take place on Saturdays at various locations, except for during exams
and holidays. Transport will be provided. We expect every consultant in the
team to attend every session. Should you be unable to attend, we will accept a
maximum of two excused absences, at least 5 days in advance. Extreme or
unexpected circumstances will of course be considered.
