One of Africa’s leading pharmaceutical company is urgently looking for a dynamic and driven Production Pharmacist based in Johannesburg. This position is responsible for all pharmaceutical procedures and documentation with regards to packing of Liquids, creams and Ointments

Candidate must be able to start Immediately.

Education, Training and Experience:

  • Must be a Pharmacist (B.Pharm/Bsc Pharm) and registered with the SAPC.
  • Ability to keep priorities in focus and meet deadlines.
  • Experience in a Pharmaceutical Production environment.
  • Must be able to manage staff and instil discipline.
  • Energy and stamina.
  • Methodical/analytical and pharmaceutical method of working.
  • Great attention to detail and the ability to sort and shift facts, noting inconsistencies.
  • Good planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability to remain calm when under pressure.
  • Be business orientated and flexible by nature.
  • Be enthusiastic, disciplined and professional.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Has to be able to deal with and resolve conflict situations.

Mathematical skills and Computer literacy:

  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide and percentage calculation.
  • To read understand/interpret chart and graphs

Reasoning ability:

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
  • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Key performance areas

  • To compile a monthly packing plan according to the manufacturing plan and requirements.
  • Liaising with LCO manufacturing pharmacist to ensure efficient planning.
  • Working in close relations with LCO packing supervisor to ensure that plan is executed on a daily basis.
  • Daily correspondence with Department Manager with regards to targets and plan execution.
  • Ensuring that the weekly plan is always on the board and all staff members are informed of their daily duties.
  • Daily meetings with packing staff to discuss plan layout for that day and ensuring that everyone is well capable of performing duties.
  • Together with the LCO packing supervisor and material handlers, ensuring that all batches for the current and following day are staged in advance.
  • Together with Packing Supervisor, ensuring that all pallets/batches that come from Warehouse are GMP compliant and correct quantities.
  • If required, to check-weigh batches in LCO manufacturing, in the absence of the LCO manufacturing pharmacist, paying special attention to:
    • Correct attachment card identifying batch
    • Job number
    • Raw material identity
    • Batch identity
    • Code of raw material
    • Lot number
    • Expiry date
    • Weighed accuracy
  • Inform Material Handler of any discrepancies on packing material.
  • Witnessing packing of the batches and providing pharmaceutical input as required
  • To arrange for additional supervision and security when packing Schedule 5 and 6 batches.
  • Involved in validating batches, together with Validation Officer.
  • To ensure that everything is in order for any trial batches, assisting customer, operator and validation officer during packing of trial batch.
  • Completing Batch Packing Documentation within 24hrs after completing the packing on the batch.
  • Maintaining a healthy working environment keeping staff informed of any changes.
  • Manage LCO Packing Supervisor, Line Coordinators, Machine Operators, Line operators, Material Handlers, Setters and LCO Runner and issuing disciplinary actions when required.
  • Ensure that staff is trained.
  • Updating relevant SOP’s and Training Modules.
  • Doing weekly clocking reports.
  • Calculating weekly differentials and overtime payments.
  • Compiling a daily productivity sheet and presenting progress and issue at walk about.
  • Compiling staff rosters for day-and night shift and rotation rosters (weekend rosters) for line Coordinators and Setters.
  • To compile deviation and investigation reports when required.
  • To investigate any discrepancies pertaining to packing and ensuring that procedures are followed at all times.
  • To be present on the lines during the packing process to monitor productivity and efficiency of staff and procedures.
  • Together with QA Inspector, to perform AQL investigations when applicable.
