SUMMARY:
Job Title: Projects Safety Officer
Location: Brits, North West, South Africa
Contract Duration: 3-Month Project Contract
Industry: Chemical / Petrochemical / Explosives
Overview: We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Projects Safety Officer to oversee all safety-related aspects of a 3-month industrial project based in Brits. The ideal candidate will come from the Chemical, Petrochemical, or Explosives Industry and must demonstrate a deep understanding of risk and safety management in high-risk environments. This role is critical to ensuring legal compliance, enforcing safety standards, and driving a strong safety culture on site.
POSITION INFO:
Must have and Minimum Requirements Needed to apply:
- BA Degree in Safety Management or equivalent qualification.
- A valid and up-to-date SAMTRAC qualification.
- Professional Registration with one or more of the following:
- SACPCMP (as CHSO or above)
- NEBOSH International General Certificate
- SAIOSH (Tech or PrTech level or higher)
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of safety experience in the Chemical, Petrochemical, or Explosives industry.
- Proven experience working on high-risk construction or maintenance projects.
- Sound knowledge of the OHS Act, MHSA, and relevant ISO standards.
- Valid drivers license and own reliable transport.
- Must be able to start immediately or within short notice.
- Ensure site compliance with all health, safety, and environmental legislation and company policies.
- Conduct site inspections, audits, risk assessments, and toolbox talks.
- Identify unsafe acts and conditions and recommend corrective actions.
- Monitor and enforce contractor compliance to safety specifications.
- Compile daily, weekly, and monthly SHEQ reports for project leadership.
- Investigate incidents, accidents, and near misses; implement preventative measures.
- Drive safety culture and awareness among all site personnel and contractors.
- Assist with inductions, training, and ongoing SHEQ coaching.
- Liaise with site management, clients, and authorities on safety matters.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- High attention to detail and professional integrity.
- Ability to work independently and under pressure.
- Practical and solution-oriented approach to safety challenges.
- Strong documentation and report-writing skills.
Contract role for 3 months, with possible extension depending on project needs.
3 x Payslips will be required when you are interviewed for the role. The reason for this is to establish your level of skill.
