Risk Specialist

A banking client is seeking to hire an experienced and qualified RISK SPECIALIST to spearhead the optimization of technology change within the corporate technology business unit of the bank.

The role involves leveraging Lean Control and other initiatives to facilitate the unit in delivering faster and safer changes. The primary focus is on addressing technology and cybersecurity risks, while also encompassing all relevant risk types during the release stage of the change process.

Job Title: Risk Specialist

Employment Type: 6 Month Contract (Renewable), Hybrid

Work Location: Johannesburg, Sandton

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Understand the Lean Control (LC) methodology, articulate the benefits to stakeholders and interlock with the Company Group Change and Risk teams about news ways of work.
  • Complete and socialize all relevant policies and standards related to the LC initiative and interlock with Group change and SDLC polices, and standards where required.
  • Partner with the Corporate Technology department Service delivery management to deliver effective technology change to the department.
  • Set up and embed all aspects of LC, including documentation of LC processes, completion of risk stories, setting up of Safety Teams, setting up appropriate tooling, and managing the LC team within value streams.
  • Understand and monitor all normal planned technology changes across the Corporate Technology department and ensure phased adoption of LC process.
  • Set up regular reporting of Release gate compliance, and design and embed breach processes.
  • Complete and present completed LC POCs and interlock with assurance providers, and technology heads.
  • Being an SME who owns Change Risk role within the Corporate Technology department and opine on and manage the Technology Change risk profile across the department.
  • Perform Root Cause analysis on any Risk events of Major incidents within the Corporate Technology department, which have a change causal implication.
  • Stay abreast with the evolution of the technology stack in their portfolio with relevant risks and controls.
  • Track and monitor the adequate on time remediation of observations raised by internal or external audit, management assurance.
  • Ensure that all closure and/or conversion documents are reviewed by the appropriate stakeholders before being submitted to Senior Management and Assurance Providers.
  • Identify priority projects in the area and ensure that key Technology, Cyber and Information Security controls are addressed prior to golive.
  • Provide leadership of a longlived Lean Control team evolving the vision, strategic planning, prioritizing the backlog of work for the team, etc.
  • Foster a culture where there is shared accountability for the delivery of the
  • Corporate Technology department outcomes, between product and safety teams and where the Safety teams engage early and throughout delivery.
  • Develop tooling, define the architecture vision, oversee the development/configuration of the tooling, integrate with other tools within the technology / work management / control ecosystem of tools. managing implementation of the tool, etc.
  • Be the evangelist and figurehead for Lean Control.
  • Lead the Lean Control Community of Practice.
  • Represent Lean Control at Group level SteerCos and other senior forums.
Background And Experience Required
  • 2 years managerial/leadership
  • 4 years experience in a risk and audit environment 4 years Financial Business environment.
  • 4 years Financial Business environment.
  • 3 years Technology Change experience.
Mandatory Skills
  • NQF level 6 B Degree in Risk Management/Audit/or equivalent Advanced Diploma.
  • CISA/CISSP/CISM/CGERT/PMP or any other IT Governance related qualification.
  • 2 years managerial/leadership experience.
  • 4 years experience in a risk and audit environment.
  • 4 years Financial Business environment.
  • 3 years Technology Change experience.
  • Good understanding of IT operations, change and processes.
  • Extensive knowledge, understanding and application of self confidence and assertiveness/persuasiveness.
  • Business organization and industry understanding.
Beneficial Skills
  • Experience in a global markets business.
  • Work management tool sets such as JIRA, ADO etc.
Package & Remuneration
  • Will be agreed based on qualifications, applicable banking experience and previous earnings.
