Job Type: 7 month Contract, expected to work Full-Time hours
Job Duties
- To conform to legal requirements and duties of 2.17.1.
- Conduct inspections at the various Operating sites taking instructions from CSO/Safety Superintendent regarding inspections through ensuring findings and observations recorded and closed out in the logbook
- Conduct incident and accident investigations according to safety protocols and corporate requirements and report on all incidents and accidents and submit to CSO/Safety Superintendent.
- Participate in Safety Audits ensuring all logistical arrangements in preparation for the audits are made
- Set up audit schedules and identify necessary areas of concern and make recommendations as well as compile and distribute audit reports to the Section Heads Participate in Operational Issue-based Risk Assessments and compile action plans from risk assessments performed
- Review Issue-Based Risk Assessment as applicable
- Setup, participate and co-ordinate safety meeting with all stakeholders ensuring that regular meetings are setup with all necessary stakeholders, including line managers and safety representatives
- Prioritise safety action plans and follow-ups within the meetings and obtain stakeholder buy-in as well as record and minute the meetings
- Conduct training and coaching
- Develop and conduct safety induction courses and site-specific safety training
- Ensure Contractors packs are in place for all contractors
- Coaching safety representatives and other personnel.
- 8+ yrs of experience - Grade 12
- Blasting Certificate
- Experience in open cast coal mining
- Knowledge of MHSA
- Experience with Construction
- COMSOC 1&2
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a safety officer in the mining industry
- Strong understanding of health and safety legislation
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to conduct risk assessments and develop safety protocols
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
