Senior Administrator: Retail Technical Support

Your responsibilities will include:
  • Performing routine maintenance tasks to ensure the stability and security of the Retail servers and systems by installing software updates, applying patches, and monitoring system performance.
  • Assist in maintaining of security measures to protect the Retail systems and data from unauthorized access or breaches.
  • Measuring and monitoring the impact of system changes and improvements
  • Creating and maintaining documentation for all Retail servers (operating procedures and run books).
  • Identifying opportunities to improve on the Retail IT systems, processes, and procedures to increase efficiency, reliability, and security.
  • The end-to-end technical support as detailed above for the below list of servers and services: -Zimbra Mail
    • Mail transfer agents
    • LDAP
    • Proxy
    • Active Directory
    • SMS Gateway
    • Patch Management
    • Project management
  • Providing technical support to end-users, troubleshooting issues with hardware, software, and network systems, and resolving technical problems efficiently to minimize any downtime.
  • Present findings, recommendations, and project updates to various audiences.
  • Assist in implement system changes through automation, process change, managed solutions, and training.
  • Assist in conducting diagnostic investigations of application errors, conduct post-mortems, and implement or recommend solutions or methodologies for resolution.

  • Assist in executing Disaster recovery plans during downtime and/or major disasters
  • Assist in implementing and maintaining security measures to protect Retail IT systems and data from unauthorized access, breaches, viruses, and other cyber threats.
  • Managing data effectively, including data storage, retrieval, backup, and ensuring data integrity and security.
  • Creating and maintaining technical documentation, such as system manuals and troubleshooting procedures
  • Assist in developing and implementing solutions to automate tasks, improve efficiency, or enhance system functionality.
  • Participating in IT projects from initiation to completion, including planning, coordination, implementation, and monitoring progress to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
The Ideal candidate for this role will have:

Must have technical / professional qualifications:
  • Grade 12/Matric is essential.
  • 2-3 years experience in IS Systems is essential, retail environment would be advantageous.
  • Zimbra Mail solution knowledge would be advantageous.
  • Hands-on experience with implementing and maintaining IT infrastructure solutions in enterprise environments.
  • Involvement in infrastructure projects such as network upgrades, server migrations, data center expansions, or cloud migrations. Experience in collaborating with project teams, managing timelines, and delivering project objectives.
  • Experience in incident management, problem resolution, and service desk operations
Core competencies, knowledge and experience:
  • Oversee technical operations, in a large-scale on-premises and cloud-based technical environment.
  • Agile tooling: Jira, Confluence, Remedy
  • Technologies: ReactJS, SQL, SAP BI Reporting, AWS.
  • Databases: Linux (RHL8), SQL
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities for collaborating with cross-functional teams, documenting technical solutions, and providing support to end-users. This includes verbal communication, written documentation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in requirement gathering techniques, process modelling, and documentation.
  • Strong understanding of IT infrastructure components including servers, networks, storage systems, virtualization, and cloud services. Proficiency in operating systems (Windows, Linux, Unix), networking protocols, and infrastructure management tools is essential
  • Strong problem skills with the Ability to analyze complex technical issues, troubleshoot problems, and propose effective solutions in a timely manner. This includes identifying root causes, evaluating alternative approaches, and implementing remediation strategies.
  • Experience in managing infrastructure projects from initiation to completion.
  • Attention to detail to ensure accuracy in configurations, documentation, and troubleshooting processes. Small errors or oversights can have significant consequences in terms of system reliability and security
  • Maintaining a customer-centric approach - Understanding the needs and priorities of internal and external stakeholders for the delivering of infrastructure solutions and support services that align with business objectives.
Knowledge Areas:
  • Good understanding of network architecture, protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP), routing, switching, firewalls, VPNs, and WAN/LAN technologies
  • Knowledge of server hardware, operating systems (Windows Server, Linux), virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V), and server management tools.
  • Familiarity with storage technologies such as SAN (Storage Area Network), NAS (Network Attached Storage), backup solutions, and data replication.
