PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

We are dedicated to continuously developing and growing our business school, which includes strategic projects aimed at fostering innovation. Join our team in a pivotal role where you will strategically plan and lead Innovation and Business Development for the NWU Business School.

As the leader in Innovation and Business Development, your responsibilities will include overseeing strategic innovation projects, the tendering process for international / national corporate and government contracts, proactively driving new business, and dedicating your efforts to direct sales and revenue generation through client relationship development. This role will allow you to shape the future of the NWU Business School by leveraging your forward-thinking mindset, passion for innovation, and expertise in business growth.
  • Leadership of the Business Schools Innovation and Business Development
  • In collaboration with department heads, develop a national business development strategy and action plan in support NWU BS strategy.
  • Take ownership of all functions and tasks related to direct sales efforts, implementing effective sales strategies and achieving revenue target.
  • Engage with the community to forge and maintain internal and external professional networks to enhance the visibility and reputation of the Business School.
  • Relationships Development and Management
  • Fostering relationships with national corporate clients, government clients, SETAs, industry bodies, and associations to understand their requirements and provide input into how to meet those requirements.
  • Cultivate and maintain client relationships, focusing on maximizing revenue generation and customer satisfaction.
  • Business Development and Growth
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities, proactively seeking avenues for growth and expansion.
  • Manage the end-to-end tendering process for national corporate and government contracts, ensuring timely and effective submissions.
  • Work with customers to understand their needs so that relevant and accurate proposals can be created.
  • Stakeholder Relations and Communication
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and competitive landscapes, providing insights to inform strategic decision-making.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams within the organization to align business development efforts with broader goals and objectives.
  • Monitor and analyse key performance indicators to assess the effectiveness of business development initiatives and make data-driven recommendations for improvement.
Minimum Requirements
  • A Bachelor Honours degree/Postgraduate Diploma in Strategy/ Management, or related fields.
  • Overall experience of six years, one of which should be in a managerial role.
  • A minimum of four (4) years sales experience in B2B, with a minimum of two years in Higher Education.
  • A proven track record of success in developing and closing new business / clients relationships.
  • Experience in leading strategic innovation projects (preferably working in, or consulting within an entrepreneurial eco-system).
Added Advantages/ Preferences
  • MBA in Innovation, Entrepreneurship or Strategy
  • Proficiency in designing and executing executive education programmes or customised training initiatives for industry clients.
  • Drivers license and own reliable vehicle is essential for client meetings and events.
  • Ability to work under pressure to achieve set targets.
  • Ability to travel locally and internationally (when relevant).
Key Functional/ Technical Competencies
  • Understanding of the latest developments and trends in Business School context and the ability to translate these into opportunities for business development.
  • Experience with industry collaboration and consulting, including working with businesses to solve real-world problems.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, including the ability to present complex information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated a high standard of interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary environment.
