CORE PURPOSE OF JOB
The core purpose of this role is to provide expert instruction in the Bachelor of Emergency Medical Care (B.EMC) program modules, engage in pioneering research in the field of Emergency Medical Care, and develop and maintain collaborative partnerships with both government, private sector entities and Nonprofit organizations (NPOs).
KEY PERFORMANCE AREAS
- Educational Delivery and Assessment: Deliver lectures and assess various modules within the Bachelor of Emergency Medical Care (B.EMC) programme.
- Relationship Building and Networking: Actively build and maintain relationships with key stakeholders in the field of Emergency Medical Care & Rescue
- Research Leadership and Publication: Lead and participate in research projects in Emergency Medical Care.
- Community Engagement and Health Promotion: Actively engage in health promotion community projects, contributing expertise to improve public health outcomes and raising awareness about critical health issues.
- Professional Development Programs: Assist in the development and presentation of Short Learning Programmes and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities.
- Clinical Practice Involvement: Participate in clinical practice shifts, applying practical knowledge and skills in a real-world setting, and contributing to the department's clinical expertise.
- Examination and Assessment Support: Provide support in the administration and execution of assessments and examinations as needed within the Department.
- Mentorship and Instructional Support: Provide mentorship and assistance to fellow lecturers in learning and teaching methodologies within the department.
- Must have expert knowledge in both the theoretical foundations and practical applications of Emergency Medical Services (EMS).
- Proven experience in facilitating learning and teaching at the undergraduate level, with a focus on student engagement and academic success.
- Skilled in both blended and online educational environments, including familiarity with academic platforms such as Moodle, to enhance student accessibility and learning experiences.
- Exceptional teaching skills coupled with strong interpersonal abilities to foster a positive and productive educational environment.
- Effective management and administrative skills, ensuring efficient course delivery and departmental operations.
- Proven expertise in Emergency Medical Care (EMC), with a strong understanding of current practices and emerging trends
- Experience in the assessment and grading of research, demonstrating a keen eye for academic rigor and quality.
- Extensive experience in academic research supervision, guiding students through complex research projects and ensuring academic integrity.
- A substantial track record of research and publications, showcasing contributions to the field of
- Emergency Medical Care and related disciplines.
Candidates must meet the following requirements:
Qualifications
- Lecturer Level: Bachelors degree in emergency medical care.
- Associate Professor/Senior Lecturer Level: Relevant Masters or Doctoral degree in a related field.
- Registration
- Mandatory: Registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) as an Emergency Care Practitioner (ECP).
- Desirable: Registration as an Assessor and/or Moderator will be viewed favorably.
- Lecturer: A minimum of 2 years of practical experience in the EMS field. At least 2 years of experience in teaching, training, education, and/or lecturing in EMC.
- Senior Lecturer: A minimum of 2 years of experience in teaching, training, education, and/or lecturing in EMC. At least 2 years of experience in conducting, supervising, and assessing research.
- Physical Fitness
- Candidates must possess the physical fitness necessary to practice in the field of emergency medical & rescue.
- Experience in the Provincial EMS systems as an ECP.
