Senior Legal Advisor

Role Purpose

The purpose of the Legal Advisor role is to provide legal advisory and regulatory support services for the ShopriteX digital and data division. This includes advising on regulatory compliance, contracts, intellectual property, data privacy and other legal matters. The successful candidate will also provide guidance on legal risks and opportunities related to the development and implementation of digital, ecommerce and data solutions.

The role interacts with a variety of internal and external stakeholders such as operational functional teams, attorneys, consultants etc. Business stakeholders will look to you for proactive, collaborative legal advice on a variety of legal topics.

Role Description
  • Providing general legal support and advice to ShopriteX
  • Draft, review and negotiate various commercial contracts, including those related to NDAs, SLAs, licensing, development, and services with partners, contractors, and clients.
  • Advise on intellectual property matters, data privacy issues and regulatory compliance.
  • Where appropriate, liaise with external legal counsel to provide expert legal support to ShopriteX.
  • Provide general commercial advisory services and guidance on engaging with statutory and regulatory environments.
  • Collaborate with the management team and other stakeholders to identify legal risks and provide strategic guidance on mitigating these risks.
  • Stay up to date on regulatory developments and trends relevant to the ShopriteX's digital and data division.
  • Mentor and guide junior team members within the ShopriteX legal practices
Qualifications And Experience
  • LLB or equivalent - (essential).
  • Registered attorney with related experience - (essential).
  • +4 years of Commercial and Contracts experience in a Legal Advisory capacity, negotiating legal agreements, and litigating as applicable, with a thorough understanding of legal principles and practices in business contexts.
  • Experience in acquiring and briefing outside counsel as required, with a keen eye for identifying and selecting the best external legal resources for specific legal matters.
  • Team player with a collaborative approach. - Ability to work collaboratively across teams, including business, IT and legal departments, to ensure effective legal support for the organisation.
  • Ability to work independently, proactively taking the lead on legal requirements and employing resources where appropriate to ensure effective and efficient legal support for the organization.
  • Strong strategic thinking and innovative problem-solving skills, with the ability to bring fresh and creative legal thinking to the table to support business objectives.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to effectively communicate complex legal concepts to a variety of stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
