Senior VoIP Engineer

  • Develops, installs and maintains a VoIP infrastructure
  • Responsible for testing and analysis of all network elements in the VoIP Network
  • Optimise Network infrastructure and network security functions providing reliable support to business systems and processes

  • Responsible and accountable for VoIP Network Availability, Reliability, Security policy and Monitoring
  • Conduct Performance monitoring through various applications and systems
  • Responsible for the setup and maintenance of Network Management systems in the VoIP space
  • Building relationships internally and externally, negotiating and delivering process improvements to meet strategic goals and objectives in the most efficient manner adhering to budgets, schedules and resources
  • Provide Tier3 support and high level fault resolution to the Business and Client Services and determine the root cause and risk elements of failures while considering alternative courses of action
  • Understand the interrelationships of Voice, Network, Systems, Security policy and Core Networking protocols to provide guidance for integration at an organizational architecting level
  • Convert the long term technology roadmap into specific project plans, business cases, budgets and project plans for implementation in the network
  • Provide input to the operational implementation plan to ensure that capacity requirements can be proactively identified, managed and reported on as part of the operational functioning of the product.
  • Update Voice Risk register and work towards reducing risk (and limiting fraud) on various elements in network.
  • Work with existing vendors and service providers (and investigate new ones) in ensuring that the network keeps up to the demands of innovation and capacity requirements
  • Implement specific tactics for operational excellence, in terms of systems, processes, best practice, etc.
  • Work closely with the other Business Units to ensure synergy and co-operation in areas which are relevant to the Voice network
  • Contribute to Product development and complex technical design of new products/ enhancements
  • Ensure seamless integration of new infrastructure projects from a project management perspective as well as provide technical leadership and guidance on such projects
  • Provide technical guidance and input to client RFPs and other Business documentation
  • Responsible and accountable for the delivery, implementation and support of the overall VoIP Network
  • Driving project delivery and ultimately owning projects from inception to completion
  • Technical enablers, integration APIs, and detailed technical and operational story design Infrastructure design
  • Analyse emerging technologies and make recommendations for adaptation, investigate new product ideas and guide Product Development in technical productisation
  • Implement a process-based approach to meeting Communication organisational goals
  • Assist in defining the VoIP/ Communication roadmaps for future proofing and market relevance
  • Implement VoIP solutions as strategic tools to enable IS to compete in the local and global Cloud arena
  • Provide a high degree of team leadership through complex projects
  • Responsible for providing necessary information to the Business and other business units to be able to effectively support the VoIP Network, including but not limited to training, best practices, and BAU documentation
  • Ensuring that all activities performed are in compliance with Policies and Procedures
  • Help analyse business requirements and translate them into technical deliverables
  • Ensure the VoIP Network meet architectural guidelines & standards, and follow best practices
  • Ensure adequate handover of products and services to the Client Services team
  • Up-skill team members so they fully understand the architecture and how it is tied together, what the dependencies, interdependencies, and interoperabilitys are
  • Development, testing, and release planning of custom additions and features to the VoIP platform
  • Training and instruction on the use and consumption of services on the platform
  • Brainstorming and incubating new ideas with other team member
Qualifications
  • A minimum of 3 years experience in software development with a focus on audio/video systems and/or VoIP
  • VoIP Protocol, TCP/IP, Routing, Switching, Session Border Controllers, Gateways & Softswitch experience (essential)
  • Demonstrable knowledge and significant working experience in VoIP environments (required)
  • Demonstrable knowledge and significant working experience of networking & TCP/IP (required)
  • Significant experience in designing, implementing, and supporting VoIP environments (essential)
  • Deployment automation and configuration management (desired)
  • Proficiency in one development language, preferably Python (desired)
  • Experience in disaster planning / recovery and execution (essential)
  • Project management and Product Development skills( Desired)
  • Network Management systems and Integration skills (Desired)
  • Server and blade technologies (desired)
  • Desire to help people exploit leading-edge technology in a fast paced environment (essential)
  • Degree, Diploma or relevant (ICT) Experience
  • Appropriate Industry Certifications, including:
  • VoIP Protocols
  • Cisco Networking or Devops certifications (desirable)
  • Broadsoft Certifications/ experience
  • ACME SBC Certifications or Experience
  • Puppet or associated automation technology education (desirable)
