The Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of the Witwatersrand (Wits University) invites applications for the position of Head of School: School of Biomedical Sciences.
Brief Description
The School of Biomedical Sciences, a new dynamic and multidisciplinary academic unit championing the disciplines of anatomical sciences and physiology. The School is also home to the Bachelor of Health Sciences (BHSc) degree. The School is committed to advancing excellence in teaching, research, and innovation that contributes to the improvement of health in South Africa, Africa the continent, and globally.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide strategic academic and administrative leadership to the School.
- Drive innovation and transformation across teaching and research.
- Foster community - participation and engagement.
- Grow undergraduate and postgraduate programme offerings within the BHSc.
- Uphold the Schools ethos of academic excellence in both research and teaching.
- Advance staff and student development.
- Promote collaboration within the University, and the formation of partnerships with external stakeholders.
- Ensure effective governance, financial stewardship, infrastructure management, and human resources oversight in the School.
- A PhD or equivalent qualification in a relevant biomedical science discipline (anatomy or physiology, or a cognate discipline).
- Minimum of five years post PhD.
- Eligible for appointment at the level of Associate Professor or Professor.
- A strong record of scholarly research, postgraduate supervision, and academic leadership.
- Demonstrated experience in managing academic programs, people, and resources.
- A commitment to advancing transformation and academic citizenship.
- Insightful, ethical, and consultative leadership style.
- Ability to foster cohesion in a diverse academic environment.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and negotiation skills.
- Experience in change management and stakeholder engagement.
