Description
Applications are invited from dynamic and self-motivated candidates to fill the above position within the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment. The Faculty Registry within the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment (FEBE) at Wits is the central academic administration office responsible for providing comprehensive support across the student lifecycle. It oversees student admissions, registration, academic progression, records management, graduation processes, and the governance of academic committees.
As the academic administrative backbone of the Faculty, the Registry ensures that all academic processes are compliant with University policies, national regulations, and faculty-specific rules, while also driving innovation and system enhancements aligned with the Universitys digital transformation agenda.
The Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment is a dynamic, future-facing faculty that offers a wide range of qualifications across engineering disciplines, architecture, planning, and the built environment. Purpose
This is a newly established leadership position within the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment. The Deputy Faculty Registrar will support the Faculty Registrar in the strategic and operational management of the academic administration portfolio. The role is designed to strengthen student-centered service delivery, enhance academic governance, support digital transformation initiatives, and ensure robust regulatory compliance across all student administration processes.
Brief Description
Qualifications And Experience
A Bachelors Degree (NQF Level 7) or equivalent qualification with at least five (5) years of relevant experience in academic administration or student governance within a higher education institution, of which a minimum of three (3) years should be at a supervisory or management level. It is essential that a candidate should have strong working knowledge of academic governance, student records management, and regulatory frameworks applicable to higher education. Must have a demonstrable experience in student administration systems, process improvement, and digital transformation projects. S/he should have a proven ability to lead and develop teams, with excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills. Ability to manage complex operational demands with attention to detail and a commitment to service excellence.
Should have high-level proficiency in institutional systems such as Oracle PeopleSoft Campus Solutions (or equivalent student information systems) be advantageous.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage student academic records, registrations, progression monitoring, and graduation processes in accordance with University policies and faculty-specific rules.
- Provide oversight and quality assurance for the application of academic regulations and decision-making by faculty committees.
- Support the Faculty Registrar in ensuring academic governance structures are effectively coordinated, with accurate record-keeping and timely dissemination of committee decisions.
- Drive process improvements and efficiencies, aligned to the Universitys digital transformation and system integration initiatives.
- Collaborate with central University structures to ensure consistent application of policies and seamless student administration processes.
- Provide leadership and capacity-building within the faculty administration teams through mentorship, supervision, and skills development.
- Ensure effective risk management, audit readiness, and compliance with all institutional, regulatory, and national higher education frameworks.
- Contribute to the continuous improvement of student administration systems to deliver responsive, student-focused services.
