Starke Ayres is a leading supplier of premium agricultural products across Africa. We are currently seeking a detail-oriented and reliable Bookkeeper to join our Uganda operation in Kampala. This role plays a critical part in ensuring accurate financial reporting, statutory compliance, and effective financial administration.
Responsibilities
Financial Administration
- Process supplier invoices and ensure timely payments
- Record cash receipts and prepare bank deposits
- Perform monthly bank and cashbook reconciliations
- Administer petty cash, EFT, and cheque payments
- Maintain an accurate and orderly accounting filing system
- Capture expenses and sales data for monthly GP and budget reports
- Provide financial and administrative support to management
- Prepare monthly and annual financial statements
- Ensure accurate and timeous posting to the general ledger
- Reconcile balance sheet accounts monthly
- Prepare year-end reconciliations in an auditable format
- Submit statutory returns and payments accurately and on time
- Analyse fuel expenditure and compile monthly usage reports
- Review and manage customer credit applications and account files
- Issue monthly customer statements
- Follow up on outstanding accounts and circulate age analyses
- Liaise with sales teams regarding debtor balances
- Coordinate legal handover of overdue accounts where required
- Assist with annual audits and stock takes
- Liaise with external auditors and service providers
- Ensure compliance with internal controls and reporting deadlines
- Assist with budgeting processes
- Maintain company archives and documentation
- Liaise with Head Office and service providers
- Support basic IT and backup coordination
- Perform ad hoc duties as required by management
REQUIREMENTS
Qualifications
- Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate (essential)
- Diploma or BCom in Accounting or similar qualification (NQF Level 7) (essential)
- Minimum 3 years experience as an Accounts Clerk (essential)
- Minimum 3 years experience as a Bookkeeper or Assistant Accountant (advantageous)
- Strong understanding of accounting principles
- High level of computer literacy (MS Office & MS Teams)
- Strong analytical and report-writing skills
- Excellent organisational and planning ability
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
