Supervisor Metallurgy Plant

Requirements
  • NQF 4 (National Senior Certificate or Grade 12 or National Senior Certificate for Adults) with at least 5 years Plant experience in a Metallurgical Plant as an Assistant Supervisor, OR
  • NQF 7 Bachelors degree / B-Tech in Metallurgical/Chemical Engineering with at least 2 years Plant experience in a Metallurgical Plant and completed Graduate Development Programme
  • Have knowledge of ISO 14001, ISO 45001, Metal Accounting Code (AMIRA) and ICMI Code requirement
  • Have experience in Crushing, Milling, Cyanide leaching, CIP/CIL circuit, Smelting circuit operations, gravity circuit operation, elution operation and carbon treatment, Sampling Assay and Analytical practices
  • Medically fit to work in the specific business area.
  • Clear security screening record.
  • Clear credit record.
  • Valid drivers license (if applicable).
Key Responsibilities
  • Plant Operations
  • Plans, executes and supervises all day-to-day process and maintenance activities in his / her area of responsibility
  • Conduct work planning and ensuring availability of resources e.g. liners, reagents etc.
  • Changes and optimises practices and procedures
  • Be accountable and responsible for ensuring the safe achievement of set safety, production, environmental and metallurgical efficiency and cost targets
  • Enforces compliance to all mandatory codes of practice as set out in the plant operational procedure e.g., safe storage and handling of chemicals, TMMs etc.
  • Ensure that the cyanidation process in the plant complies with the ICMI code of practices
  • Be responsible for maintaining housekeeping in their areas of responsibility
  • Ensure aims and objectives of the Mines Health & Safety Act are achieved in area of responsibility by providing and Page 2 of 6 maintaining an environment that is safe and without risk to the health of employees.
  • Provide accurate raw data in order to enhance the decisionmaking process of the next upper level.
  • Solve day to day problems to ensure Production targets are met
  • Ensure potential breakdowns are identified, supervised and proactively prevented
  • Enforce discipline in their areas of responsibility to employees under their charge
  • Ensure accurate sampling and preparation for Metal Accounting purposes
  • Ensure compliance with TSF Critical Controls
  • Perform standby duties
  • Domain workflow ensuring output is achieved
  • Ensure workflow is optimised in line with changes in technology or output requirements
  • Monitoring and controlling process variables within defined parameters
  • Ensure there are no deviations from policies and procedures and process requirements are adhered to
  • Identified failures by Shift teams through the Job card system are attended to and rectified
  • Focus on safe production & operational excellence
  • Focus on safety and health as well as operational excellence

  • Provided technology, is optimally applied
  • Ensure installed technology is utilized according to manufacturers specifications
  • Ensure an awareness of risks and hazards associated with the technology
  • Stakeholder Relations
  • Building and maintaining relationships with stakeholders across the organisation and externally at all levels and crossfunctionally.
  • Ensuring open communication channels with all relevant stakeholders.
  • Sourcing, contracting and negotiating with service providers.
  • Liaising with the necessary entities on any environmental management related requirements and alignment where applicable.
  • Collaborating with external service providers regarding the design and implementation of tools to enhance processes.
  • Financial Management Working Cost Budgets
  • Formulating monthly and annual budgets in line with business requirements and financial objectives.
  • Adhere to the mines Procurement processes Cost Savings:
  • Leading and driving cost saving and cash conservation initiatives.
  • Cost control to be in line with approved budget, without compromising section performance
  • Building a values-based organisational culture
  • Actively support and meaningfully participate in the execution of the segment specific organisational development plan. This Page 3 of 6 support will manifest in the targeted shift in culture as described by a valid culture assessment.

  • Perform Self Audits to identify and rectify hazards/risks in area of responsibility SHE Management:
  • Instil a culture of SHE leadership within the department. Quality Management System (QMS):
  • Approve departments documents.
  • Comply with requirements of the Quality Management System.
  • People Management
  • Provide coaching and on-the-job training to reporting staff.
  • Manage performance and development of reporting staff.
  • Ensure fair work allocation for team members.
  • Inspire team members towards high performance.
  • Plans and structures tasks over periods of time
  • Ensures a working environment in which employees can be motivated, strong leadership
  • Conducts daily safe production meetings with subordinates
  • Conducts planned task observations and over inspections
  • Manage attendance of reporting staff e.g. non-available, short/long shifts, leaves etc.
  • Manage and enforce discipline in area of responsibility
  • Chair disciplinary cases as and when required
Additional Requirements
  • Certificated: Crushing, Milling, Extraction, CIP, Smelting, TSF courses
  • Knowledge of COUPA
  • Have practical experience working in a conventional gold Metallurgical Plant
