Supply Chain Category Manager - Mining - Contract

Our client, leading mining concern, is looking for a Supply Chain Category Manager to join their team in Rosebank for a 12 month contract.

The purpose of the role is to identify and lead the delivery and implementation of step change, high impact cost reduction initiatives across the Group's operations in the Southern Africa region working in an integrated manner with existing Mining Equipment, Processing & MRO, Mining Commodities, Facilities Management, Transport & Logistics procurement category teams.

Duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:

Safety, Health And Environment
  • Ensure category and supplier specific safety, health & sustainability opportunities and risks are effectively managed to support the broader organizational & Supply Chain ambitions.
  • Ensure that regional category strategies, supplier selection criteria and agreements clearly define safety, health and sustainability performance standards and oversee the implementation and performance monitoring of global (as applicable) and regional strategies.
  • Ensure that the Supplier Management approach incorporates Contractor Performance Management requirements to ensure that Suppliers meet delivery expectations in a way that reduces safety related incidents.
  • Manage global (as applicable) and regional value creation strategies to deliver the Group's safety and social performance requirements for contracting with responsible suppliers.
Performance & Delivery

Supply Chain Strategy, Critical Tasks, Targets
  • Enable the alignment between the Cost Reduction Task Force initiatives and the Category Management Teams
  • Provide input to, and support the development of global category strategies
  • Translate global category strategies into a regional strategy and develop appropriate regional category strategies that align to the overall global Supply Chain strategy, critical tasks and performance targets
  • Ensure effective on-site implementation of end-to-end commercial activities related to assigned portfolio of categories and suppliers
Planning
  • Responsible for sustainable value delivery planning and providing strategic and tactical input into the Cost Reduction Task Force as well as the frontloading process.
  • Identification and sizing of initiatives relating to portfolio
  • Ensure that planning and scheduling of sourcing, contracting and contracts management activities are delivered with short-, medium-, and long-term visibility
  • Provide strategic input to target setting and progress tracking against target
  • Ensure that initiatives are uploaded and tracked in the planning platform for relevant portfolio
  • Provide input into the Supply Chain budget and resource requirements
  • Support the optimisation of Materials Planning through category strategy, contract and alignment with Physical Supply Chain
Partnerships (Stakeholders and Suppliers)
  • Embedded in the cross functional team for cost reduction with Sites, Engineering and Finance.
  • Collaborate with internal technical and broader business partners in the development of regional value creation strategies, business cases and joint supplier engagement priorities
  • Facilitate the development of elevated strategic supplier partnerships that enable value delivery, co-innovation and development of cutting-edge solutions to our business challenges with a strong focus on ESG.
  • Establish supplier/contractor relationships that position the Group as the partner of choice, and manage performance to ensure full value-in-use.
Social and Sustainability
  • Drive a culture of Sustainable Value through ESG, TCO initiatives, innovation, working capital and cost reduction
  • Develop an integrated category vision (short, medium to long term), sustainable value creation strategy and associated business cases, that advances the Group's technical, community, sustainability and financial ambitions
  • Explore co-innovation partnering approaches and embed into strategies as relevant
  • Develop and ensure the implementation of value creation strategies and initiatives
Communities and Inclusive Procurement
  • Understand community specific ESG needs and ensure that these are addressed through sustainable value creation strategies
  • Drive a culture of community development and inclusive procurement with all stakeholders, underpinned by clear objectives
  • Ensure that initiatives and approaches in category and supplier strategies are embedded that will sustainably increase host community commercial participation and support the development of thriving communities, in line with the company's feasibility and ambitions.
  • Embed clear ESG expectations, targets and initiatives in commercial agreements and manage the delivery thereof.
  • Support the global and regional Inclusive Procurement teams to identify supplier development needs and opportunities, and support the development of solutions
Sourcing and Contracts Management
  • Ensure that end-to-end sourcing and contracting activities are effectively and efficiently executed for allocated portfolio identified by the cost reduction taskforce.
  • Negotiate and conclude Commercial Agreements in line with value delivery initiatives and category strategies
  • Work with Group Legal to develop bespoke agreements when required
Operational Excellent and Operating Plan Support
  • Ensure that a copy of the final contract agreement is handed over to the relevant Business Partner and Company Representative
  • Support the effective contract implementation by the Business Partner and Company Representative
  • Drive supplier performance based on contractual KPIs, supported by relevant Business Partner and reporting systems
  • Manage contractual risks and resolve escalated contractual issues and support the Business Partner & operational team in resolving escalated operational issues
Governance And Compliance
  • Manage compliance to internal Group and Supply Chain Governance requirements and pertaining to all Sourcing and Contract Management activities in set portfolio
  • Manage compliance to applicable legislative requirements pertaining to all Commercial activities in set portfolio
  • Ensure regular, timeous and accurate reporting pertaining to all portfolio activities
Requirements
  • An undergraduate qualification - Bachelor degree level or equivalent (non-negotiable)
  • Honours/Master's qualification is desirable
  • Proven track record of extensive practical experience in relevant field
  • Regular travel may be required.
  • Own vehicle and valid driver's license
  • Technical knowledge including the following:
  • Strong overall knowledge of Supply Chain Management: Category Management, Cost Reduction, Sourcing, Purchasing and Contract management
  • Advanced Category Management and sourcing & contracting knowledge with TCO approach
  • Advanced skills in SRM (Supplier Relationship Management) and SPM (Supplier Performance Management)
  • Strong business case development and investment appraisal experience.
