The Fleet Technician is responsible for the daily technical inspection, basic maintenance, and control of all vehicles within the fleet. The role ensures that vehicles are safe, roadworthy, and operationally efficient through oil, water, pressure, and general mechanical checks, as well as accurate record-keeping and reporting to the DC Fleet Group and management.
Duties And Responsibilities
Technical Inspections and Maintenance
- Perform daily checks of oil and water levels on all vehicles. This includes truck engines and fridge engines/motors.
- Identify and resolve minor mechanical issues on vehicles.
- Conduct basic inspections of engine components and vehicle gearboxes / compartments where applicable.
- Ensure all vehicle pressures (tyres and other applicable pressure systems) are set to the correct specifications.
- Monitor overall vehicle condition to proactively identify potential mechanical or safety issues.
- Take responsibility for overall fleet control and vehicle safety.
- Monitor vehicle usage to prevent misuse, damage, or operational risk.
- Ensure all vehicles comply with internal safety standards and legal requirements.
- Support preventative maintenance practices to minimise vehicle downtime.
- Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and operational standards.
- Implement approved fleet and safety procedures consistently.
- Report any non-compliance or deviations to management.
- Complete and verify all required vehicle inspection and maintenance documentation.
- Maintain and update Excel spreadsheets and other fleet records.
- Ensure all data is accurate, complete, and submitted on time.
- Provide regular reports to the DC Fleet Group regarding vehicle status, faults, and maintenance activities.
- Communicate clearly and professionally with management regarding fleet performance, risks, and improvement areas.
- Work collaboratively with other departments to improve fleet efficiency.
- Participate in relevant training as required by the DC Management.
- Share basic vehicle and fleet control knowledge with other staff where required.
- Stay up to date with best practices in fleet management and vehicle maintenance.
- Code 14 Drivers License + PrDP with minimum of 2 years experience
- Diesel Mechanic qualification
- Minimum of 4 years experience working on HGV
- Basic to intermediate mechanical knowledge of motor vehicles.
